I know this is not the case but I thought it was. What was the murder that was solved by a tigerdroppings thread/member? I remember the killer was dating a posters sister.

The poster's sister was dating him. The killer, if I recall, had to go to the hospital the night he killed her and either had a bandage on or there were scars, but the sister and killer had gone to the family house and I think the dad asked him what happened. Then the media came out and said the killer likely had marks or injuries.. cuts, etc on them. I think they found something with his blood or maybe under her fingernails that pointed to this.

Once that came out, I think the dad started putting some things together.. Mayb the killer's story of how he got the injuries didn't add up, etc. It was a pretty crazy situation.

Crazy times. I was a freshman when it started. We had several female friends that would stay with us. One marriage and at least 2 kids came from that. Sophomore year I moved right off campus and my neighbors told me the FBI had been doing surveillance in the apartment right next door to see if DTL would resurface after he killed the grad student across the street.

Then, chief Pat Englade tried to get a book deal to look like a hero and profit over his amateur investigation. I think he was shamed so much he backed out of writing a book.

IIRC, Chief Pat Englade said he did not want to bring in outside help because he was worried they would be looking to get a book deal. Might be one of the many reasons he was shamed so much he backed out of his book deal.

He would stalk them and then he would pretend to be lost or working in the neighborhood. He would go to the door and ask them to use their phone. Then he would attack them.

BRPD’s fixation that all serial killers were white was one of the biggest blunders of the entire saga. At least two more women died needlessly if they had followed-up on leads of a black dude when first reported. They just wouldn’t listen to people or even detectives from other cities!

Wasn't a Detective from Zachary telling the BR task force that it was DTL, but they didn't want to listen to him because they were detectives in a bigger city (BR) and obviously were smarter.

Ricky and his girlfriend were parked in a car in a cemetery, Derek Todd Lee stabbed him multiple times, then raped Ricky’s girlfriend while he watched (near ) and then DTL stabbed her to death, he left Ricky to die, but Ricky survived

The girlfriend is named Michelle and she's very much alive. She wasn't raped either. DTL attacked them with a sling blade but stopped his attack when a police officer just so happened to pull into the cemetery. They were very lucky that police officer pulled in when he did.

Years later Michelle saw DTL in a grocery store and immediately recognized him as her attacker. She went to the police but the statute of limitations on the attack had expired so they couldn't arrest him for it.

It was insane. At one point police were shadowing my cousin because she fit the victim profile and had been experiencing alot of unsettling things around her home. She actually moved on account of it. This is just one story but there were so many more. A lady who showed up at my sister’s office one day who hadn’t slept in days because she swore she saw a creeper in her yard one night. What a nightmare.

I know for a fact that the media was saying it was a white guy with a white truck. However, at some point during that time, detectives were 99% sure it was a black guy based on DNA at crime scenes.
The media was repeating what BRPD was telling them about it being a white guy.

I think the FBI was who got the DNA data and suggested looking at black men.

Then BRPD told everyone to be on the lookout for an “Oriental” person. No lie. They said Oriental instead of Asian.

The current mayor of Zachary (a ZPD detective at the time) suspected Lee for a while. I get it that BRPD was leading the investigation but I don’t understand why ZPD couldn’t go after Lee alone since some of the attacks happened there.

"Not the Killer" decals replaced nuts as the accessory of choice for baws driving white trucks.

My dad was a suspect for one of DTL murders.

He was at the house doing the landscaping when the police found her body.

That morning he went to the front door to put the bill in the mail slot. The door was cracked open and he could barely see in. He thought it was weird but pulled the door shut and knocked. No one came to the door so he continued on with the landscaping.

He was in the back yard when he heard several cars pulling up. Walked to the front and several un-marked cops were there.

Crazy part, at that time they didn’t question him ask him to stay, nothing. Thinking it was weird he went about his day.

A few mornings later the news released that his client was murdered in her home. Freaking out about the situation, he called the cops to let them know he was there the morning they found her body.

Oddly the police told him they had been trying to find him for questioning. Dad went down to the station was questioned for an hour or two and gave DNA. After DNA came back they removed him from the suspect list.

I was an LSU student.
All the girls were terrified. Many were pulled home by their parents. Most us guys didn’t really see the big deal as we partied all the time but even we started to get nervous for our lady friends.
But yeah, the whole city was nervous. I remember all of us looking for white trucks with the killer inside

DTL was horrible. There are many more murders he is in question about...I.E., His P.E. teacher from high school. Her body was found where Connie Warners body was found. Both women, had had some sort of contact with him. ooohh and dont forget Eugenie Boisfontaine...Her and Connie Warners wounds were exactly the same. Eugenie lived right off of Stanford Ave and Connie Warner lived three houses down from Randy Mebruer. Both Gina Wilson Green and Randy's murder were linked to DNA.
Also.......Jerry Fowlers wife......Mari Ann Fowler....They never found her body....100% would bet my paycheck it was him.

Dont forget about sweet beautiful Christine Moore, who was African American. He just loved women, especially ones he could not have.

Him killing predominantly white women is what threw the profilers off, as most serial killers target those within their own race.
