I’ve served on only one jury. Foreman led off with guilty, next two guys both voted guilty. I was fourth and voted not guilty and let it be known I was unlikely to change my mind. Everyone after me voted not guilty.

Somebody said let’s watch the dash cam video again. We did and talked for about five minutes. Two of the guilty voters changed to not guilty and the other said “well, I’m sure as hell not going to be the one that keeps us here all night.”

I always wonder what would have happened had I voted guilty (i.e, would everyone else too just to get out of there).

This is why the first vote should be by secret ballot. There should be no chance of influence by other voters. Then once you know where you stand in numbers as a group, you can reveal everyone's verdict and start the discussions as to why each voted the way they did.

Are we still at 9 jurors or did they select the young lady this morning?

They've burned through every juror today so far for cause.

Defense has struck I believe 2 people today and the prosecution has interviewed no one. Everyone else has been dismissed by the judge. They're in recess for lunch and will resume at 1:30 for the afternoon round. The defense has 4 strikes left. I'm not sure what the prosecution has but I believe it is a similar number.

Do you know what happens when the defense runs out of strikes? I thought I heard the judge mumble something before recess he wasn't granting anymore strikes or maybe that was a commentator..

At that point do they have to take whatever they can get?

I do not know. And because of the settlement Friday the defense made a bunch of motions because of how it would taint the jury pool. They’re going to have all 7 selected jurors from before that news come back and have to be questioned again. They also wanted more strikes because it further exacerbated the taint of the jury pool. It was denied.

I read an article earlier from the daily mail stating the judge may postpone the trial.

Correct defense made a motion for continuance. I believe that’s the same thing right?

Judge absolutely tore into the media today. Said they'd been peeking at attorney's privilege notes and have been reporting on them. Said he is about to bar them totally from the courtroom and media area. He really laid into them when he's been pretty folksy so far.

They're interviewing the previously seated jurors from last week right now and have already had to strike 2 of them because they said the settlement confirmed their biases so we're back down to 7. The lady they're interviewing right now seems like she knows the settlement was highly political and doesn't infer guilt. Both people struck likely already were biased against the defendant in the first place based on their comments.

Man what a shite show... Back down to 7 jurors... And now I guess the question of the $27m settlement needs to be asked of all the rest of potential jurors..
They need a change of venue...

Why are they in recess for so long? I didn't hear when they said they're coming back.

ETA: They were supposed to be back at 9:25. They've been very punctual so far so this delay is weird.

not sure. I stepped away for a bit. Sounds like they're questioning a juror now.

Lost 2 jurors this morning but added 2 today. Back to 9. Judge gave defense 3 more strikes, prosecution 1 more based on tons of pre trial publicity.
