Their elected leadership is what I meant. I agree with you.

If George Floyd's family got 27 million for him overdosing, certainly the guy who died because the city failed to respond to his medical emergency (funded by taxpayers) should get peeled off a few mill also.

The reason these elected leaders continue being failures is because they are never held accountable. Sure people will bitch but come election time they fall back in line.

Tough times create strong men
Strong men create good times
Good times create weak men
Or something like that shite.

Back at it. Defense is greatly concerned with the announcement of the civil settlement. Called it suspicious. Filed a motion to move the case, call the existing jurors back, and even sequester them I think. Also giving the defense extra strikes.

The prosecution is arguing that people probably don't even know about the settlement and they don't control the city of Minneapolis.

ETA: Extra strikes denied. 7 seated jurors will be called back for further questioning.

ETA2: First thing a juror said this morning was they couldn't avoid hearing about the settlement. It makes her believe there was enough evidence the city couldn't have fought it in civil court.

Then the jury will be full of total retards. How coukd you NOT know about it?
If I was the judge, I would have almost thrown out the case once this ridiculous "settlement" been announced.
Clearly an attempt to sway the jury.
Further, I fully expect other " settlements" during the course of the trial.

First juror of the day seated. He was the second person to be interviewed. The first lady said she cannot be impartial and was excused before questioning.

The next potential juror sounds like he's at least 70 years old. Something tells me the prosecution will strike him.

eTA: admitted he cannot be impartial to Mr. Chauvin. Struck for cause by the judge.

It seems they're up to 9 now. How many women does that make?

This juror is getting struck for sure by the state. Indicating that the rioting has been very bad and he can't speak his mind on his college campus. Specifically said it's very liberal and then inferred that limits free speech and discussion.

ETA: He's been struck by the defense. Interesting.

For those that followed today, any word on when the judge will rule on the motions filed today or was that done today as well?

Whoa man, that’s racist now. You better delete your account before you get doxed and have your life ruined. The mob has to have their pound of flesh daily.

They’re going to deliberate tomorrow morning I believe. They finished early today and judge asked each party if they wanted to start the motions but they both deferred to wait until tomorrow.

Will the jury have to vote unanimously guilty to convict?

Yes. And to acquit.

I’ve served on only one jury. Foreman led off with guilty, next two guys both voted guilty. I was fourth and voted not guilty and let it be known I was unlikely to change my mind. Everyone after me voted not guilty.

Somebody said let’s watch the dash cam video again. We did and talked for about five minutes. Two of the guilty voters changed to not guilty and the other said “well, I’m sure as hell not going to be the one that keeps us here all night.”

I always wonder what would have happened had I voted guilty (i.e, would everyone else too just to get out of there).

One caveat, trial was in wealthier county. I was poor but I think most on the jury had good jobs/lives to get back to.

Eta: I was initially biased too. When I saw the defendant I thought “I don’t know what he’s being charged with but he looks like he did it”.

Conversely to my experience with jury duty, I spent one summer working for a law firm on a civil case.

Trial was in an urban county. Jury deliberated for three days. We basically lost.

We spoke to a juror afterwards. He admitted original vote was 11 to 1 for us but the one guy held out until everyone kind of gave up.

They're starting with the jurors. They did some deliberations on earlier motions before but they did not rule on any of them I believe. First juror of the day seems like a young woman.
