Public vs. Private.

Public housing or private housing.
Public hospital vs private hospital.
Public transportation vs private transportation.
Public insurance vs private insurance.
Public bathroom vs private bathroom.
Etc...

You get to pick.

For the most part, if you want your kids to go to public school, you move to the burbs. This is true in almost all areas in the South. The exception is usually if they are in a magnet program of some type.

If I lived in an area where private school was the only acceptable option, I'd move.

Of course. If my kids went to the public school we are zoned in they would look like two grains of rice in a bowl of Coco Pebbles.

We moved back from the suburbs where the public schools were good and put our kid in private school by choice. Saving 2-3 hrs per day between me and my wife commuting is easily worth the cost. My time is worth money.

If you went to a private school you would not have misread.

Yes. Both of mine went to Catholic school. I live in the Woodlawn High school district. I never considered sending them to public schools, particularly after Katrina.

No - Our Texas DFW North Suburbs public schools are on par with private schools in most states.

I do pay 8K a year in property taxes which partially goes towards the schools though.

These are the greatest typos/mistakes, I love it win people mess up bragging about their education.

Yes private/Catholic schools in the Mandeville area. I would send them to private schools regardless of where I lived unless there wasn't one around. You answered your own question as to why.

If so, where do you live and what made you decide private?

Got my kid into Northwestern State E-Lab. Decision was based on not wanting to send him to the other failing schools in Natchitoches Parish. He's in 2nd Grade now and attended another private school in the area for K-1st Grade. Wasn't real happy with what we were receiving there vs. what we were paying. Luckily I was able to get him into E-Lab and his sister will have priority to get into the same school now when she reaches Kindergarten.

Bham suburbs, and my kids go to public schools. There are only 1 or 2 private schools in this area I'd send them to, but our school system is fine so not necessary.

A private, christian school near me had a drug ring busted up a few years ago, so there can be problems in any school. Of course, being that they're private they were able to sweep it under the rug and a lot of parents didn't even find out until a year or so after it went down. Then the school/church lobbied the state legislature to let them form their own police force.
