Its not. One day people will realize this has ALWAYS been a myth. Population growth is already on the decline almost everywhere BUT Africa. The earth could handle significantly more people, maybe not at our current levels of consumption but it could.

The Spanish flu killed around 50 million at a time when the population was 2 billion. So... 2.5% of the world population was lost.
Meanwhile Covid has killed about 0.02% of the world population.
