Man that's clean looking. I have the BB58 and personally prefer the straight line bottom text, but I'd kill to have a rose logo instead of shield at the top. It'd be the perfect watch.

Buy a Garmin Tactix Delta and then take the left over money and put down on something nice like new truck, gun or a nice vacation!

Don’t get me wrong Rolex makes nice watches but out of everyone I know that has one more than half keep them in a safe and don’t wear them.I’m sorry I can’t justify spending that much money and not wearing it or having to be careful when I do wear it.

I am not a watch guy, but I have an Oyster Perpetual Datejust that is perfect for my tastes. I have the silver dial. I like the simplicity and versatility.

I like the Omega, but it's a bit busy for me personally.

I can't speak to the differences in craftsmanship or quality between the two, except to say that people I know that are into watches like and have both. I assume you've gotten a lot of good info to that end in here already.

My marathon with shitty selitta guts in it is 6 years old and still running fine, just now starting to get a bit slow. Loses about 3 minutes a month. Id have a hard time believing a rolex NEEDS service hardly ever.

Yep. I have date just in dark blue. Watch is beautiful. Too bad I bought it before covid. It has sat in a box for a year because I have no place to wear it.

BB58

Wish I had that instead of its big brother. I seldom wear it because of how thick it is. Mine is the 79230 w/ the in-house movement. Like the way it looks in the safe more than on my arm.

Yo downshift: post a pic of your watch on if you don’t mind. I’m guessing you have a MSAR?

Just say "No" to Rolex. I have one that was an anniversary gift. I think it may be the worst watch ever made. Keeps shitte time and requires $500 every 3 years for reconditioning and cleaning.

I'm thinking your wife bought the watch on the beach in Mexico?

Hey Obtuse, what is your opinion on Bremont watches?

Bremont is a polarizing brand. They are a young brand that uses the storytelling/look book marketing model that some find cheesy and disingenuous. They also are knocked for being poor value for money and some people hate the gimmicky stuff they do like including bits of historical artifacts into their watches, like the Wright Flyer.

Me I haven't owned one but none of the watch geek dislike would prevent it if I found one I really liked and got a good price used, this is definitely a brand I would only buy used since they see heavy depreciation. Their movements are generally not very special but a base ETA/Sellita is cheap and easy to service and the parts availability outside the manufacturer is excellent.

In the end, there is nothing "bad" about them save for the fact they don't retain value very well and they won't impress most watch snobs. I am very much a buy what you love person and there are plenty of poor (bought new) values in my collection that watch snobs dismiss the brand.

What kind of idiot spends that much money on a watch? Does it keep better time?

That would make me a negative IQ kinda person. It honestly doesn't bother me because most people I know have hobbies or like things which for me make no fiscal sense and just defy logic. Like the guy that spends money-raising his truck and shodding it with huge off-road tires which reduce its utility and increases NVH for 99% of the driving he does in it, or the women who spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a scrap of silk from a Parisian harness and bridle maker.

The best mechanical watches will just mast the $10 quartz watch you can buy at Walmart accuracy-wise. 1/2 second loss or gain for a mechanical watch is considered steller. So one doesn't buy them for pure accuracy against all the other options one has available. Most people that like mechanical watches especially if it is a hobby appreciate the ability to measure time with just mechanical parts and without the need for electricity being involved. Mechanical watches are an anachronism but intrigue the curiosity of some and it is the last bastion of man-jewelry acceptable across the majority of society.

I prefer the aesthetics of the ETA watches in every aspect. The fact they are thinner, have the rose and smiley face dial and no faux rivets on the bracelet make it a winner for me. It doesn't hurt they were made for a relatively short period of time which is usually a good thing for a Rolex/Tudor owner. The manufacture movement is certainly nicer but sometimes you can't have everything you want. I am odd in that I prefer the 41mm size.

I will say Tudor is arguably the best value in a mid-range watch. Some still see them as a poor mans Rolex but since the reintroduction, to the US market they really have their own identity and make a lot of watches with a nod to history that Rolex will never make. I do hope they make a blue sub with snowflake hands like the Marine Nationale it is by far my favorite vintage Tudor.

What's the board's thoughts on Panerai watches?

Panerai is another polarizing brand. It tends to be a love or hate brand, I actually love them. They enjoyed ~15 years of favor but are no longer an "it" brand. Some people dislike the large size though they make more smaller watches now but I don't think the aesthetic scales well on all their models, it works better for Radiomirs and Luminors. Some people hate they only made "2 watches" though a Paneristi sees all little differences as important. Most of mine are older ETA-based watches and they are as reliable as most anything made. The ones made on a modified 6497 are simple enough even a poor amateur watchmaker like myself can tear down, clean and reassemble them in a day.

I just love the simple functional dial and most of them have lume you can read a book by.

They are not for everyone but if you like them I say get one. One of the fun parts of Panerai is the strap culture and you can change the whole look of the watch with a 2 minute strap change. The number and variety of straps made for Panerai is absolutely staggering. If you like interesting and unusual straps Panerai is one of the best watches to have as long as you are in the group that loves them and not the one that hates them.

I like old school with the Speedmaster. Love getting up in the morning and winding the watch while I make coffee.
