Copper thieves have an easy new target ... electric vehicle charging stations that are filled with copper wiring. Brazen thieves were caught on camera cutting the wires from a charging station in Van Nuys.

"Out of the 40 stations that we have, 38 of them were stolen and the other two were damaged," said CEO of the nonprofit One Generation Jenna Hauss.

She says the estimated cost in damages is over $18,000.

A nonprofit that operates charging stations for EVs?

They're likely bigger thieves than the meth heads who stole the wiring.

Gotta love the news, like with catalytic converter thefts, thieves are stealing copper from charging stations, and this is how they do it...

So show all the other thieves how to do it...

Can’t wait for the feel good story about some crackhead taking a 480V 400A roasting trying to steal some copper.

$18k in damage for $200 at the scrap yard. It might be cheaper to pay the tweakers not to steal.

I looked them up. It's a non profit for the elderly in California. They have charging stations for the old people and care givers who frequent their facility.

Kids have it too easy these days. Back in my day you had to sneak your way into old abandoned warehouses under false pretenses to steal copper wire.

If you find yourself siding with the thieves in this scenario because you’re not politically aligned with the victim, it’s time to re-think your life and consider finding a personal identity beyond politics

Wasn't much of a jump from cat theft.
I noted charging station theft would happen a while back.
Copper pays well having recently taken 2 scrap stick welding units c/w cables to recycling.
