So you're saying that every dog walker that lets their dog shite in my yard I have the right to pull a gun and spit in their face and charge them with trespassing?

1) Was at home with the kids one Sat. morning, and noticed someone in my backyard. Called the cops. When they arrived, the guy made up some BS about being at the wrong house. They hauled him off for trespassing. I never even spoke to the man, let alone tell him to leave. And No, I did not have a fenced in yard

2) Friend of mine was in the process of flipping a house. He saw people on his surveillance camera hanging out in the gutted interior. Called the cops. They were charged with trespassing, and removed, without the homeowner ever being on site to warn anyone

I simply cant believe youve never noticed actual reporters gathered on the sidewalk, because they know they cant just go up to the door to ask questions of a homeowner involved in a "breaking news" case

I’m not sure if you noticed one in the back yard and one in the structure.

You can approach a front door and knock.

Just like police can come knock and consensually talk without a warrant. Or solicitors. Or your neighbor. Or a political candidate. Or the Amazon driver. Or… a reporter.

None of them have free reign to roam your upstairs bathroom or rummage through your shed but absent signage or an order of protection- your front porch is publicly accessible for someone to approach your home to engage you. When you tell them to leave, they must go though.

This isn’t the flex you think it is.

I suspect the split here is largely folks in denser communities being used to these “incursions” being normal and legal and more rural communities seeing them as more of an affront because they are rarer

People can step on your grass to reach your house in an attempt to engage you

Going to the station to ask a question isn’t the point.

So his actual point wasn't to gather information about the trooper's excessive overtime (which could easily be obtained via a public records request), but to actually provoke a confrontation for views and likes. Gotcha!

Honestly seeing some of the history I don’t think this one’s solely for fame but also genuinely drawing attention to a bad dude that shouldn’t be a cop

By doing it in a provocative way he’s got far more eyes on the issue, including a petition to investigate the guy getting several signatures per minute (over 20k, in maybe a day).

This would make sense except for the multiple cases of overtime abuse.

How do you know this cop committed overtime abuse? Perhaps he did, but perhaps he didn't. There are lots of ways cops can legitimately earn extra money. Was this extra money "overtime" or was it for "extra duty." There's a difference.

You dont need a license to be the free press under the 1st amendment. Nor a degree.

I swear Americans have zero idea about the Constitution. Probably why it keeps eroding.

That State Trooper should be charged with brandishing and assault and the other officers should be investigated for conspiracy to chill the 1st amendment rights of the free press. They want to punish him for the investigation into one of their thin blue ego gang members.

This is why people think all cops are bad. They had video evidence and still did the wrong thing in arresting the reporter. If 50% of the cops were good, the other 50% would be in jail.

Search overtime abuse by cops. You’d be amazed how often this happens.

Correction, 9 out of 10 or slightly higher. It's as though "they" don't possess the intelligence to understand that it's OK to comply and fight it later if they feel they've been wronged.

Where does the constitution say that you can antagonize people on their own property?

The first amendment gives access to private property?

Still waiting for you to explain what the first amendment has to do with an altercation between private citizens on private property...

frick, you're dumb as hell

Only altercation I saw was the cop getting in the face of someone leaving when asked to.
