They both have to tell every single person they talk to. Like bro.. I get it. I just don't care and you're not better than me.

I’ve never had interactions with sober people who insisted on telling me how awesome and important they were for being sober.

I didn’t even know they were sober until I asked if they wanted a drink.

Vegans however…
What kind of teetotalers do you interact with?

Sober people likely worked super hard to get that way and probably say it to make sure you're ok with it and/or won't present any more obstacles in their sobriety.

I tell everyone I know and meet that I'm an alcoholic.

"Hi, nice to meet you, I will probably be shitting my pants tonight due to my alcoholism."

They get confused when you ask them if they want a stiff one

I'm both (don't drink anyway) but the only time it really comes up is when someone insists that I try something and doesn't accept a "no thanks". This happens a lot more than you'd think because many people become defensive about their food when you decline to eat it. Some of the recovering alcoholics on here might be familiar with a similar phenomenon when declining a drink. Some people interpret your refusal as a moral judgement against them and push to know why you won't partake.

Vegans are kind of like atheists in that there is a loud contingent that feels the need to make everyone aware but there are also plenty of us just quietly living our lives. Never been to a protest, never threw red paint on a fur coat, and I don't have a Coexist bumper sticker.

My wife just tells everyone she has severe food allergies. That's an easier route, I guess.

basically. Take your free drink and go pour it in the toilet if you want. It just feels condescending.

I’ve around a lot of sober people the last ten years. The guys that go out of their way to tell you they are sober are almost always not sober.

Maybe you have some complex you never consciously sorted out... no one can make you feel inferior without your permission.
