I want to say this happened in Louisiana or Texas, but I remember many years ago some inmates escaped from prison on foot and ran into a nearby thicketed swamp. After a few days of being lost in the wild elements they returned to the prison and turned themselves in looking much worse for the experience.

Sounds like he was giving himself up and told 911 who he was, hence SWAT being called to find him
