They can call it Kuwohi. I will continue to call it Clingmans Dome.

If they wanted a say, they should have kept us from taking it from them.

I’ve been to this attraction on more than one occasion.

I’m ashamed to say that the name “Clingman’s Dome” always made me chuckle like Beavis and Butt-Head.

Don't think so. So a person's heritage depends on the use of the wheel, am I understanding what you are saying?

We just went this summer. I was fogged over. Lots of people. Plenty struggling to do that half mile, uphill hike on pavement.

I remember that place. I was 18 and hungover when we went there. My 85 year old Uncle who drank boilermakers every day decided he wanted to go up there. I decided to stay in the vehicle. He and my Mom went. My Dad started giving me shite about letting them outdo me but I was very hungover - and wearing cowboy boots. After about 20 - 30 minutes of that shite I basically said “f it”. So up that hill I went.

I get up there and there they were. Laughing their arse off at me walking all the way up there in cowboy boots and couldn’t see Jack shite. It was foggy as shite and you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.

They said they were heading back down but I said yall can but I am going up this frickin tower too. So I did. Not to see anything but to shut em all up. So I did.

I remember thinking if I puked off the tower would I be arrested since it was a National Park and shite. I did think I was going to die but I figured I’d sleep it off later. I made it back and they were all laughing at me.

They can call it whatever the hell they want to. I’m not wasting my time or my heart health climbing that useless “observatory” of fog ever again. You can see fog in the parking lot just as well.

Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians

Is it bad that the first thing I went and looked up was "Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians casino"?

And the first thing to pop up was:
quote:

Cherokee announces record casino profits, plans for expansion...the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians announced its biggest per capita distribution and approved a loan agreement for a $275 million expansion to the Valley River casino in Murphy.

I mean, it’s common knowledge that the eastern band has a casino. It’s full of sad old white people dumping money into slots.

Looks like a cool place to visit while you're in Cherokee buying some of that recreational weed they're selling now

Not that I really care, but why don’t the Cherokee just keep calling it what they want to call it? Why do they want to make everyone else call it what they call it, too?

Because alcoholism and poverty remain the primary staples on Indian reservations, despite the influx of gambling money.

That's the "heritage" I see.

Renaming things is a feel-good move and does nothing to address the real problems they face.

This is akin to removing statues, or renaming streets in the black community.

But at least the leaders can pretend they're hep'ing The People.
