If you want to donate to something run by Marines, these guys are fixing kids in New Orleans.

Because of what the COVID lockdown did to this area, I gave to Second Harvest Food Bank for New Orleans and Acadiana this year.

I don't like to give to charities because 90% of the money goes to what they call "Administrative expenses".

I like to find one poor kid every year that will not have much of a Christmas. Find out the big item that they want which is usually an X box, Play Station, Bike, Trampoline or something like that. I will buy the item (do not give the parent cash) but let them put it under the tree for the kid.

We have always done the Operation Christmas Child boxes for Samaritan’s Purse. But after what they’ve been doing in Lake Charles post-hurricanes, we’re donating money to them this year. And we’ll let them decide where to send it. It may wind up here, may go to Nicaragua, etc. if you want to make sure it goes to US disaster relief you can earmark it that way though.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul typically provides financial assistance (rent, utilities, etc.) to those in need. If there is one in your area they would be helping locally.

The local organization is called a conference and each one decides how they will provide assistance; not all conferences provide the exact same service. Most, if not all, of what you donate goes to help the needy as volunteers comprise the organization.
