Charity Spotlight: Support Bridge House and Grace House of New Orleans
Dear TigerDroppings Users:

Addiction does not take a break for the holidays – it is an emotionally charged time of year.

This can be challenging for anyone, but for the alcoholic or addict, particularly those new to a recovering life, it can be particularly overwhelming. Bridge House / Grace House offers guidance to our clients that helps them to prepare for what challenges the holidays may bring to their desire to be clean and sober. It is important for them to avoid high risk situations, not to isolate and use a support system that will reinforce their commitment to recovery. Additionally, they must practice and apply the principles of recovery.

The foundation of recovery at Bridge House / Grace House is the 12 Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous. These steps are used for recovery from all mood altering substances. The steps are somewhat modified to be used in fellowships other than Alcoholics Anonymous such as Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous. The journey of the steps is one of personal discovery including acknowledgement of powerlessness over mood altering substances, acceptance of a power greater than oneself, acceptance of the past with responsibility to make amends and moving forward on a lifelong spiritual journey. The message of the hope and joy of recovery as well as being of service to others is at the core of sustained recovery.

The Prayer of St. Francis has been integrated into the 12 Step literature as an expression of the 11th Step ~ Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out~.

As the recovering person enters challenging situations he/she might use this prayer to express inner acceptance, compassion and humility, particularly at this time of year. Recovering or not, we can all apply these principles when facing difficult situations.

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

A Gift Beyond Measure -
As 2013 becomes immersed in the holiday season and year’s end, we must take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude for all of the blessings we have received and hopefully conveyed to those we serve. Our heartfelt thanks are particularly directed to all of you in the community. Your contributions throughout the year allow us to maintain our services at their current levels – providing treatment to literally hundreds of alcoholics and addicts each year. We could not accomplish this without you as a part of the extended family of donors and volunteers who support Bridge House / Grace House throughout the year.

Please consider a gift to Bridge House / Grace House. While there will be many individuals and families that will have their best holidays in a long time having experienced the opportunity to discover the miracle of recovery, there are many still out there needing our services. Your generous gifts of support are beyond measure.

Happy Holidays!

Great group who has done AMAZING work in helping so many including my best friend. To have an organization in our area like this, who doesn't charge thousands of dollars a month is a pretty big blessing. Thanks to all who help them out.
