Yeah they definitely just forgot us or something
We should be #2
The list is based off 2018
quote:
110 homicides were reported in the city during the year. Based on the 2018 census estimate of 209,880 population, that represents a homicide rate of 52.4 homicides per 100,000 residents.
And it actually went up to 113 murders in 2019. Second highest since the mid 90s

BR had something like 85 last year with roughly 225k in the city limits.
ETA - 83 and that was for the whole parish although most of them occurred in BR proper.

No Jackson either. Jackson's 2018 murder rate was 47/100k people, good for third in the country. The population cutoff is probably 100k (North Charleston is at 110k) so that makes at least two notable omissions from the top 5.
Without looking it up, I've got to guess Jackson and Birmingham are both a good bit over 100K people

They both are, and like Bowl pointed out, Birmingham has had a top 5 murder rate the past few years. There's no way Jackson isn't in the top 15-20 either. Those omissions make me question the accuracy of this.

Those number for New Orleans are old and outdated. This is from 2018 when New Orleans had 148 murders. In 2019 New Orleans only had 119 murders which would give it a roughly 28 or 29% per 100,000.

The top 10 with Democratic Laedership.
This bullshite gets so tiresome. There's so much nuance and history behind urban decay and generational poverty that just spewing, "but da damn libtards are in controwl!" makes you come across incredibly ill-informed and truly childish.

It really does. I always get ragged on when I bring up Austin which is a deep blue city with years of Democrats running it and yet they’re rated as one of the safest cities in America with over 1,000,000 City proper population.

If you look at it by state, Ohio isn't anything to brag about. And Illinois has 3 cities on that list as well.
What I am doing is the same as our elected officials. Try not to make it look as bad as it is instead of doing something to fix the problem.

There are many causes, but the major cause is...The Black Leadership refuses to admit the major problem.
When you constantly blame others for your problem, you are the problem

They've been pretty boisterous about the lack of federal/state money, jobs, education, and economic opportunity.
Or are they just supposed to call out black people for selling drugs and partaking in defending their gang territories (aka, drug sales territories) because it's the only way they can make money in the impoverished areas they've been sentenced to live in?

Man, I can't get into this right now. It's Friday afternoon.
I'll just say you've got a bunch of single-parent households with unruly children (dad in jail on drug charges), those children go to dilapidated schools where teachers can't control the students, much less teach, and no jobs in their immediate area. They're recruited by gangs at young ages, gang members being the only people they see in their communities that have money.
How does a child growing up in those environments come across professional enough (speak well, write well, well-mannered enough) to the rest of the population to be taken seriously? It takes special kids to make it out of places like that. Most of them never had a chance from the day they were born.
Look at the charities professional athletes from these areas donate to and/or create. They're based on education and after-school activities to keep kids off the streets, sometimes college programs to extract promising kids from inevitable failure if they don't get out of the ghetto. There's a reason why they nearly unanimously contribute to those kinds of causes, because they're the most needed in those communities.

Holy frick, you actually believe this stupid shite don't you? The problem isn't white racism, it's black racism, talk proper english, you trying to be white, focus on education, you think you're better than me. Why do you think Ebonics is a thing? You trying to talk white. You can't be good because you're not if what you're not is good. Blacks have allowed black racist who weren't capable of moving on to determine what black means.
