California ISO twitter

quote:

Due to extreme #winterweather conditions across the country this week, the California ISO urges consumers to voluntarily #conserveenergy during the evening hours to help ease stressed grid conditions in the Midwest, Texas and the Southeast.

PG&E twitter

quote:

@California_ISO asking PG&E, other CA utility customers, health permitting, to voluntarily #conserveenergy tonight as Midwest, Texas and Southeast deal with extreme winter conditions. No reliability issues expected in California.

Uhhhhh, am I missing something here or are they trying to pat themselves on the back for no reason?

I’m a gas trader. I’ll tell you why. 1. Grid sucks they import a good bit of power
2. Gas grid sucks they import all of their gas.
3. CA sucks at everything the do energy related.

I would like to thank those suckers for buying EL Paso South Mainline gas for $140 mmbtu Friday and today.

Eta: gas prices are higher in CA than they are in TX and the East. And its mild there. Think about that.

That is not going to help Texas. Texas just needs to get it's shite together. Very frustrating this week.

That's nice of them considering California imports more electricity from other states than any other state in the country.

Everyone who is having issues should have prepared themselves ahead of time.

Food, water, heat source, power source, etc.

Everyone should be prepared with alternative sources, in one way or another.

Being without is simply poor planning.

Since everyone switched to the natural gas train, being able to shutdown some peaker CTs could help Texas with natural gas supply. Hell we shut down some CCs when the northeast needs gas.

That’s the point, every Kilowatt that is not pulled from the grid by CA is available for Tx or some other area.

The electrical distribution grid is a national thing, California is electrically connect through the grid to Texas, and every other area in the U.S. Texas companies can buy excess production capacity from California, or any other area, and vice versa. The problem is there is so much demand due to the wide area of this storm few areas have excess capacity.

And a lot of what they generate themselves is from natural gas; the majority of the natural gas is imported by pipeline.

Granted, they do have a higher percentage of renewables but not enough to offset natural gas or nuclear.

Whats the back story on the California hate here? When we had wildfires so many people posted horrible things, when we have power outages, same thing. I have heard no one in California have any ill will towards others as a result of acts of nature. Is the hate just over politics? California is very diverse. Not everyone is a liberal. Becareful with your karma. Wishing harm to others is never cool. I hope everyone in Texas stays safe and warm.

Reminds me of the Doctor Zhivago scene when Zhivago comes home and finds all those people living in his wife's parent's house.

Whatever the mob feels is the best arrangement.
