Buying the cow when the milk is free?

My uncle has always been a stickler for doing things his own way.
His brother in law owns a small dairy farm in the north regions and always has excess milk that he gives to family They just make the call and go grab 2 jugs.
But my uncle insists he just can't accept the free milk because he pays his own way. He went so far as to buy his own cow and milking equipment just to prove he was on the up and up.
Some people are just stubborn I guess. But I'm really worried he doesn't have enough knowledge about pasteurization and what not to be making his own milk.

I don't drink cow's milk, unless it is from a Jersey. I prefer goats milk and cheese, doesn't upset my sensitive stomach as much.
However, Nymeria will drink and eat anything.
