Great News! The people who can't charter their own plane can use this service to get to their timeshare!

The Southeast Beach Express service will begin flights June 3, running Thursdays through Sundays from Baton Rouge to Jack Edwards National Airport, within minutes of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Alabama. The service will run until Oct. 3, but could be extended based on demand, says Jay Taffet, founder of Southeast Beach Express.
Tickets for the 30-seat flights can be booked online and are priced at $490 round trip from Baton Rouge. Total flight time is just under one hour.
All flights are operated by Ohio-based Ultimate Jetcharters. The flights are scheduled to leave Baton Rouge at 7 p.m. with return flights leaving at about 5 p.m.

Are there really that many people that will pay 500 dollars to cut like 2 hours off their drive time to Gulf Shores?

no water tower discussion on this one yet?

Delta hasn't flown anything other than regional shitplane service out of BTR for a couple of years now.
Last trip I took there was on a 717 before the pandemic. Pretty common aircraft type for Delta out of BTR.
But when I moved to Baton Rouge next year, I'll be switching to American Airlines. Which means CRJs for me.

Braxton and Brentley needed a break from their U12 travel ball so Bryce flew us all to the beach.

$500 per person. Can you imagine? $1k for a flight with your wife to . . . . Gulf Shores.

wish they were running them to Destin
why??
by the time you drive to airport, go through security, check bags etc you are saving maybe 3 hours. Then you get there and have to rent a car or uber if you dont plan to leave the condo. But then you have to uber to the grocery store, uber to the restruants etc
frick all that. not worht it, better to just drive. I mean orlando is one thing but destin is what...6 hours max from BTR?
GS is only like 4 and a half hours, wtf is the point? Especially for around 500 per person. If it was 100, then maybe. But i sure as hell am not going to put up with the hassle of a plain, especially with kids, to go and save 2 hours of drive time. and at a cost of a couple grand for a family......yea not happening.

Delta pulled mainline service.
They have sold a lot of their 717’s and are retiring their MD-88’s. They only purchased a few of the new Bombardier/Airbus jets and most haven’t been delivered. So Delta has scaling back narrow body mainline service nationwide and relying more on the regional carriers. Well timed during the pandemic I guess. They got lucky.
For years Delta was the largest carrier out of Baton Rouge and I have no idea why. They only went to Atlanta and didn’t bother with a connection to JFK, DTW, or MSP. If there is is any issue or weather in Atlanta, you aren’t getting home if you are a Delta flyer.
American has better service for frequent fliers out of BTR with connections to more hubs, with plans to eventually add service to DCA. They are rightfully gaining market share at Delta’s expense. Which is odd because American is such a poorly run airline. In other markets, Delta is eating their lunch. But the ATL effect actually gives American a leg up in the mid market southern towns where Southwest isn’t very big.
UA would do well with a nonstop link to O’Hare or Newark. Unfortunately O’Hare will not be able to expand their number of gates for years. The massive airport expansion is going to take a long time there.
