Not sure why this is supposed to be funny. She's an American citizen being held by an authoritarian state on charges that may not be completely bogus, but clearly are being spun up for geopolitical purposes. You don't have to like somebody to understand when they're being railroaded.

She was not that smart and they found something which they perceive as illegal in their country.

She probably just got waved through any number of times before. Tensions get high and suddenly they decide to check her bag. It was dumb and lacked situational awareness. At any rate, she's being singled out. They caught that travel vlogger near a nuclear power plant. He paid a small fine and took some selfies with police. She's been detained going on three months.
I'm not a fan of her or the WNBA in general but they're making an example of her for reasons that have nothing to do with the actual offense.

She didn't just go there, she lived there. It's hard to feign ignorance when it's a place you live and work.
Let's don't forget she was partly in Russia because she was escaping the spotlight for a domestic violence arrest. The media will harp on the fact that the WNBA doesn't pay enough and that forced her overseas... but they don't tell the whole story.
I doubt Russian gives two shits about some lesbian athlete that 99% of the country couldn't name if you gave them clues. There is no value.
