BR should try leapfrog ideas: Go ahead and lease Mall of LA to Amazon

Reading the feats of strength thread made me think there's a better opportunity for BR: stop wasting time trying to develop Cortana. Jump ahead and lease Mall of LA to Amazon. In 10 years it will likely be without Sears and probably two other anchor stores. The interior will not be much better. The BR "power brokers" would be wise to find a suitable alternate that will pay for it before the mall turns to desolate wasteland.

At least the OP isn’t blaming the death of shopping malls nationwide on black people in Baton Rouge.

Didn’t Amazon just purchase a fulfillment center in Lafayette?

Around Breaux Bridge, IIRC.

Still doesn’t help you on this side of the Mississippi given the habitual clusterfrick that is the I-10 bridge.

Thought it was Carencro but either way, same thing.

Edit: But we are hoping Amazon will help assist with completing i49 so having to drive through BR would be pointless (atleast for going to Nola). Would it be quicker for through state traffic to take a completed i49 with the 75 mph speed limit to Nola and i10, rather than going to Br and taking 12 or going down to Nola on 10?

Baton Rouge doesn’t own the mall.

Crazy how much America has changed in a few decades. With covid shutting everything down, it'll be a miracle if any small businesses and mom and pops continue to thrive.

No, but if the right deal is negotiated private interests participate.

And to other point, hasn't it been in the news that negotiations are back underway with Amazon for a Cortana site? Why bother. Mall of LA is also already on the interstate, go ahead and leapfrog the future burden it will soon become.

Fallguy strikes me as a Mall Walker type, twice a week to keep the cholesterol under control.

A few months ago but I don't go often. I really haven't been much of a mall person since maybe the late 90s and the types of stores they have in there now don't appeal to me much.

I haven't been in there in probably 6 years and even then I couldn't find a single pair of Girbaud jeans with a good crease, that fit right.

Amazon should build their own bridge for their exclusive use
