Because of this thread I decided it might be a good idea to make a thread about the research program I am participating in at Pennington. I mentioned it in the other thread but my response is buried at the end of the thread where some who might benefit may not see it.

METOSA Study

quote:

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

*Be between the ages of 35 and 65
*Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30 - 50 calculate your BMI
*Not have evidence or diagnosis of diabetes
*Potentially have moderate to severe sleep apnea. Symptoms of sleep apnea can include: loud snoring, gasping for air during sleep, unrefreshing sleep, awakening with dry mouth, morning headaches, and daytime fatigue or sleepiness.

The study is basically evaluating possible effects of Metformin on sleep apnea. If you make it far enough into the study you'll get a Philips Respironics Dreamstation APAP.

I got the full mask for mine and named it "Cthulu".

If you live in the Baton Rouge area, have sleep apnea and fit the above criteria, give Pennington a call and at least look into the program.

Well damn! Apparently I snore like a freight train, but I'm not fat enough to participate in the study

To post this thread? Nothing.

The study needs more people and getting the APAP has been life-changing for me. There's nothing in it for me other than hoping someone else can benefit from it as I have.

The study says you have to get a muscle biopsy. No thanks.

No, it's really not.

I'm 5'11" & 225, my BMI was 31.

At 190 I still snored like a pit bull swallowed a freight train.

I was hoping to get a new machine but if you’ve used a sleep apnea machine in the last 6 months you are disqualified

Well crap. I looked into this because I need to have a sleep study done anyways and my BMI isn't high enough.
5'11" 195 and I have apnea just as bad at 180.
