I’m making a drive in from Austin. I was supposed to leave tomorrow morning but I don’t want to chance icy roads in Hill Country. I thought about New Years Eve with family in Houston with a drive home on New Years Day. I may just drive straight in today though. What do the weather gurus of the OT say?

I bet you'd be fine sticking to your original plan, but it's never a bad thing to take the conservative option. Go see your family in Houston and roll in tomorrow imho.

What do you consider "warm somewhat"? It will be low 30s in NOLA and high 20s at 8pm tomorrow

I'm hoping I can cross the basin bridge at around 4AM Tuesday morning to go hunting. Then I need to cross the Bonnet Carre to fly to DC on Wednesday afternoon.

All rain is gone and with the north wind blowing, roads will or are dry now. No ice. Last news I looked at early this morning showed temps were not going to drop till after 10pm.They lied. It was 44 at 6 and 37 now.

We got a dusting overnight, Wichita Falls, just enough to make a mess and is likely not going anywhere soon given below freezing temperatures

Thanks for mentioning that! I see it’s almost impossible to not drive on ice in Ft. Worth right now

Anyone looking at observations around the country? I’m noticing many cities are reporting temperatures now that are at or below their “falling to ___ by 5pm” temps. NWS has 23 for New Orleans proper Tuesday morning.

So... when should we want the misting and sprinkling to stop around the BR area in order to ensure we don't have an icy mess? Just went running and it was lightly sprinkling and also misting the entire time. Sorry if stupid question. Just figured it would be dry by now.

It won't need to be too soon before freezing with the cold dry airmass blowing in. The wind coupled with the dry air will pull out the moisture rapidly. Bridges may be a little dicey in the morning because it doesn't take much moisture to make em slick. All in all, BR should be fine imho.

The skies clear around 5pm here in Pointe Coupee. Nice full moon up tonight.

Wouldn't be too surprised. Won't take a lot of moisture to make it so.

For tonight, that north wind has some bite now.

Well baws, I got my snow anyway with a 0% chance of precip in the forecast. Just shy of 2” but it’s dry powder at 15 degrees!

I’m in a cabin about an hour northwest of Asheville at about 4,000 ft.
The drive up the mountain was quite interesting, but all snow and no ice.
Asheville and the surrounding area was a bit dicier with black ice and sleet...and everyone got caught with their pants down given the 0% precip forecast...bad night for it too!
