My biggest concern now is that there's no convenient way to get from Highland to Nicholson now in that area

I used to drive E Boyd -> Burbank -> W Parker every day to get to the RNR building. Rarely had a problem. The only bad times were going back home through W Parker/Burbank

I braved the intersection this morning. It was backed up on burbank due to the people stopping at yellow again, so I took a right onto Burbank to Lee, and got on I-10 E at College. Commute time didn't change at all. I was pretty pleasantly surprised.
ETA and I also heard some people laying on their horns, which is an improvement from yesterday

Why couldn't they just synchronize the lights during the day and put them on the car weighing mode after 8pm?
What is weighing mode?

They don't weigh anything. They're inductive loops that sense vehicles. But they're only triggered by cars and trucks, which is why most motorcycles don't set them off.

This is stupid regardless, but add to the fact that drivers are too fricking stupid to not use a flashing yellow as a stop sign and this will be a clusterfrick of epic proportions come school time.

I thought some of them went by weight. That must be old technology. Makes sense because I had a lifted truck that wouldn't change the lights for anything
I still don't see why they can't just do like I said in my previous post. Accidents happen. You're never gonna stop them, but traffic is something that can be dealt with if you use your brain

Same thing that they have at fast food restaurants by the speaker in the drive thru.

Hell, in Lafayette, they have those loops all over the place to keep lights green and allow traffic to flow on a major street if there are no cars waiting on the cross streets AND they can reprogram the timing of traffic lights at major intersections on the fly from traffic control as conditions dictate.
We spend millions of dollars to manually mistime one fricking street's worth of lights.

I love all the transportation PhD's in this thread.

quote:really? have you not seen how those streets are laid out? the layout 30 years ago was dumb and there really inst much that can be done now beside closing East boyd by highland.
If you fix E Boyd, why do you need lights at West Parker and Jennifer Jean? West Parker wasn't used a whole bunch when I was there. Granted there was no light.

Someone needs to go put some signs on burbank that says "Flashing Yellow does NOT mean STOP"

When traffic is backed up on highland coming from campus, there's no light to help you make a left onto nicholson ext
Posted on 7/10/14 at 11:23 am to kingbob
still easier than fighting the parker and boyd lights
Posted on 7/10/14 at 11:24 am to When in Rome
All they needed was a fricking green left arrow signal added to the rotation.

Talk to the union.
No one with any competence wants to work for them because they don't pay worth a damn and it's a horrible work environment to work in. Our hwy construction professor once remarked "Only go work for DOTD if you want to hate your life".
