Thinking about committing some of my time to helping, giving back, etc as opposed to wasting it away on boredom, booze, or other selfish things. Haven't lived in Houston very long and figured it'd be a constructive way to get out and meet people.

What are some of your best experiences? Helping kids, old people, homeless, etc?

Don't know much about Houston, but I'm guessing Wounded Warrior has a good presence there, and it is a great organization.

Did you have anything in mind or is this what the thread was about?

We get to do a lot with work so I've done a bit of it all.

Working with kids, homeless, military vets down on their luck, elderly in the VA homes. It's always a good feeling to give back and if you have rating systems for work it doesn't hurt that either.

Can't say any were better than the others.

I got to do some pretty sweet stuff when I was stationed in Monterey: Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Concours d'elegance, a few events at Laguna Seca and 49ers games. In The Woodlands, I've mostly done Habitat for Humanity (in Conroe), which I enjoy. There are plenty of opportunities on the north side of town. Just pick something that fits you.

Working with Food for the Hungry in Kenya with a church I used to go to.

Some other international ones are Operation Smile and of course Doctors Without Borders.

I currently volunteer for a sexual trauma/rape foundation, and if I could do it full time, I absolutely would. It's been so rewarding and amazing thusfar.

I plan to take my volunteering to the next level in a few weeks by joining the training program to work with rape victims at hospitals.

used to work with the Church Food Pantry in my hometown growing up. you get some sense of purpose and gain some humility from helping the old women who really need the help, but mostly you just deal with the greedy, entitled, white/ghetto trash who will bitch that you didn't give them enough cornbread mix or the right flavor of jello instant pudding.

Teaching basketball to kids. 30 years later, young adults come up to out of nowhere and tell you what an infuence you had on their life.

Became a commissioned reserve police officer. Mostly volunteer, seldom get paid for some detail events. It feels so good to throw a heroin junky in jail. Shooting dogs is pretty fun too...

I grew up in Kingwood and there was a big flood when I was in middle school. Our church youth group went and helped clean out homes that had almost the whole first floor under water.

One of the ladies whose home was flooded had huge tits and was shoveling without a bra on, so every time she bent over to shovel we got a nice peek at those huge titties. I felt pretty rewarded.

I volunteer and build the sets for the local little theatre. It's pretty damn awesome. I don't go to most of the plays, but I've built every set by myself for the last 4 years. Meet this week for the next one...

Many years ago my community service was volunteering at a jr golf tournament. My job for the day was to walk with the groups and keep their score. That was an easy 8 hours. Luckliy I like golf.

Volunteer with the Houston Rodeo. It just ended but I'm sure it's active nearly year round. Would help you give back (they hand out quite a bit in scholarships) & meet a bunch of folks.

Equestrian therapy.

The kids loved the horses and the horses seemed to know.
