Back in August, I had terrible blood sugar levels. My doctor performed an A1C test and I scored an 11. I was prescribed Metformin and made substantial changes to my diet by limiting sugars. I am down almost 60 pounds from my heaviest days of 320. Metabolically, I feel something has changed, I don’t look at food the same and I can no longer gouge myself full.

Even when I do indulge, my body is able to handle excess sugars.

I have done this all without exercise. It is just my diet that is making a difference in my life. I can think clearer and I don’t feel as tired.

Anyone else have stories of success beating the big D?

I've been beating it every day of my life by not letting myself get 320 lbs.

It runs in my family, uncle and grandpa both have it, even more reason to be healthy

Mad respect for making the change. Having said that, how did you possibly get this huge? Like that is big big. Like ginormous

A1c was 8.5, now 5.7

I used to be a fan of sugar. Turns out it’s not very good for you.

Congrats on the success

Adding fiber powder can help lower your sugar levels as well, in case you aren’t doing that

Congrats on your weight loss

Diabetes runs rampant in my family history so I check my sugar often, especially after eating pizza or drinking beer, sort of my own pancreatic stress test to see how it’s going and my numbers are solid .

I’ve cut out soda completely... had a Mountain Dew randomly a few months ago after cutting them cold turkey , I would drink 3-4 dr peppers a day. It was bad.

My doc told me I was borderline on my last checkup and I absolutely have the symptoms you describe. Do you think it was simply the weight loss that dropped your A1c?

Great Job.

In early February, my A1c was 5.9. I go back in June.

My biggest issue is still when my blood sugar drops below, 100. I can be little jittery and anxious.

Great job.
But, try exercise.
There are so many things.
Lifting, sports, running , hiking, swimming, etc
There is something for everyone

Mine was 12 and in 6’1” 225 pounds but I ate a lot of candy, drank Dr Pepper, and are a lot of starchy foods.

I was on metformin but it started affecting my eyesight so I stopped taking it and now I monitor my sugar

I stopped drinking anything with sugar. I drink water, 0g sugar cram-grape juice, and the new Dr Pepper zero.

I cut all candy, cake, etc...limited my fried foods to 1 day a week (cheat day).

I also stopped eating bread and pasta

Basically I eat chicken, beef, cod, catfish, scallops, shrimp, rice, beans, salads, boiled eggs, bacon, pepperoni, and cheese.

It’s kind of like a Keto diet.

Down 10 pounds and sugar is at 7.1 after 3 weeks.
