The bigger environmental disaster in the making is the gypstack mountain behind Mosaic - downriver from Gonzales.

It's massive, and it's not stuff you want rushing anywhere near homes or wildlife. Although It may never break or leak.

I forgot about that. Haven't heard about it in a while - you'd think the journalists around here would want to follow up on that story since they made it out to be on the brink of a major man-made disaster.

The FDA regulates drinking water reservoirs. If you want to go drink well water 500 ft away from a dump pond, more power to you.

Probably because the concern over the structural integrity of the mountain was mostly bullshite.

I’d be more concerned about the 2000 cookie cutter homes thrown up left and right by DSLD sitting 5 ft over from the house next to it

When we had LSU Football season tickets, my dad and I stayed in Gonzales, and took the River Road into campus. In the mid 2000's, they were building nice homes in a subdivision on the East side.

They've drained the pond and are in the process of leveling off and putting a clay cap on the top of the mound. Why is it a disaster in the making? The hazard was they were afraid they were going to lose the pond water. That's no longer a hazard.

Whatever is in the pond (if it doesn’t have a barrier) goes back into the ground drinking water.

In the case of the Hwy 44 area, it's mud and water

See what a wonderful job the folks who built the retention system here did on this project?

Do you know why?

Not for aesthetics, you can be sure.
