A barman has said he was given an ultimatum to reimburse money stolen at gunpoint or being fired from his job.
quote:
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement at the time, a male "brandished a handgun at employees," before the suspect "fled the business with money taken from the business."
quote:
Edward Parker, 42, who was reportedly working at The Lodge bar at the time, has now said his employers instructed him to reimburse them for their financial loss.
quote:
A photo purporting to show the Lodge repayment form is cited as proof of the bartender being presented with two stark options: repaying the stolen $3,937.35 in full through a "lump-sum payroll deduction" or via $300 "equal deductions from paychecks."

This seems illegal but IANAL
ETA: answer is in the article
Local attorney Robert Murdock wrote in an email to local newspaper the Las Vegas Review-Journal the incident could be an example of an employer taking advantage of its workers.
Murdock, who has been contacted by Newsweek for comment, wrote: "To me, the threat of losing one's job if they don't pay this money that was taken from a robbery is a violation of public policy and could very well result in a wrongful termination claim against the Bar."

Why would you agree to sign that? I’d have that in my lawyers hands ASAP.

Okay I choose get fired.
He can easily get another bartending job. And why would you want to continue working for a company like that?

They hit him with the ole shock and awe and he didn't realize until later they had pulled a fast one.

Who on Earth would sign that? Make them fire you and then find an attorney.

Back in the 80s I worked at a fast food restaurant. They didn't have a safe in the store so the closing manager had to drop the money in a night deposit box. One night I was robbed. The guy was an ex-employee. I told the police who ha was and they arrested him an hour later. He had spent $18.10 on gas, beer and cigs. My next bonus check was short $9.05 and the other managers check had the same amount deducted.

Makes no sense, you were robbed. How is that your fault?

If I was that manager, everybody would eat free on my next shift.

How could an employer possibly think they could do this and not have their business be completely destroyed after the employee posts it on social media? Is 4k worth having Twitter and an ambulance chaser take you down?

As much as I love small businesses, a lot of the ownership are vindictive assholes.

How many lawyers do you think a bartender has?
