Believe it or not, though, bacon’s association with the American breakfast is barely a century old. Before this, the majority of Americans ate more modest, often meatless breakfasts that might include fruit, a grain porridge (oat, wheat or corn meals) or a roll, and usually a cup of coffee.

I understand the argument. I contend they are misstating, or at best overstating, their proposition.

But it’s much worse than our baked beans. Their beans are canned with tomato sauce.

I don't recall them being just straight tomato sauce, but I kind of liked them.

Bacon and eggs provide much needed fat an nutrients throughout the day for good brain function. Throw in some coffee for antioxidants and you have a pretty good meal. Add a biscuit and tomato or toast and it's fantastic healthy.

You wanna get really healthy put it all on whole grain avocado toast. Save the cheese dip for lunch tho.

I laughed at both the meme and the joke. Great work here!!!

B&E are okay, but they take time and mass up the kitchen. My first instinct is "is there a leftover from last night", or a quick ham sandwich. My wife has put me on a healthier path of yogurt, granola and fresh blueberries or other fruit.

My grandmother, as most Americans at the time, grew up on a farm with LOTS of chickens and pigs. Having a tough time believing the egg and bacon thing never occurred to them for breakfast prior to an ad in 1920.

Something like bacon (yeah, American bacon is kind of unique) and eggs had been thought of as "breakfast foods" for centuries in the English speaking world.

Engagement rings were a marketing campaign also. They were more rare prior to the 1950’s. Now every woman has to have a ridiculous one.

I'm sorry.

My wife fixed me bacon, sausage, eggs, and biscuits this morning.

American men didn't wear wedding rings until the 1940s. It started with World War II, reminded them of their wives when they were deployed on the other side of the world .

Sound like the breakfast a fat loser that can't manage his finances would eat.

Because it's frickin delicious and easy to make

Bacon and Eggs is incredibly healthy and a great way to start the day

By contrast cereal is probably the worst thing you could possibly eat in the morning

Note that "comments are closed" on that bullchyt article.
Urban fare and rural fare were perhaps somewhat different but the majority of the population was rural and they ate hearty meals because the did heavy labor daily.
