There will be a proposition on the ballot on April 24th to sell Ascension Parish sewer assets to a firm called National Water Infrastructure.

Good idea or bad. My instinct says good idea but I would like to hear arguments to the contrary.

I don’t know how sewage service is in AP. If it’s pretty good now, I’d be reluctant to see it go private. Generally that means cost increases.

I'm worried about the costs and future costs of it to the end users and it seems that has not been fully explained to the voters
Ascension residents pay enough property taxes to begin with which begs the question why can't the parish afford it

With that said, they need to do something or people will not like the end result of not fixing the sewer services and I do think it is a project that has significant benefits to the parish

Usually what happens in these situations, the private company will skip maintenance and upkeep to utilize profits. Then the government has to take it back over and spend a ton to fix everything.

Sounds like they dusted off an old Enron business plan from 25 years ago. Easy "no" from me.

Nothing that can be adequately done locally should be outsourced nationally.

I have no real interest in this but do find humor in a guy from New Orleans(NOSWB comes to mind) warning us on the possible pitfalls and shortcomings of privatizing the Water or Sewage services. Please give us the example of the municipality managing and running any industry better than the private sector in any time in history and I'll hang up and listen.

Are all the neighborhoods still mostly on separate sewer systems or is there an actual unified system with treatment stations?

Unlike Orleans Parish that actually has an automobile in their sewers....

Make sure they aren’t from Jefferson County, AL. So glad I’m on septic.

If that's the case, then my vote will be no.

Since there is none now, it just means they will cut the grass in the sewage ditches more often.
