No matter how great of an impact military service may have on someones life, that will never justify forcing someone to join the service against their will.

There are times when reality necessitates it. WWII come to mind. Very few exceptions should be given.

Admittedly, it is not a decision to be made lightly by the Government.

Perth is off limits to most battle groups FWIW now haha.

My buddy was in the Navy in the early to mid 1990's. The female to male ratio for early 20s people was close to 2 women per man in Perth at the time.

Same here. I regret not joining out of highschool. It would have definitly helped me get on the right track sooner then dicking around for almost 10 years. I guess I just didnt know enough about it at that time, and chasing tail was pretty high up on my priorities.

Plenty of young men voluntarily signed up for service after Pearl Harbor was bombed. The draft wasn't needed in WW2, but the govt. just wanted to insure they had enough soldiers. If the citizens of a country believe they should declare war, then those citizens will wont have any issue joining the military. If few citizens join the service, then the war shouldn't be fought.

I would renounce US citizenship before being forced to enter a military engagement against my will, regardless of circumstance.

It's really not even a question for me; such a mandate is an abhorrent infringement upon my pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

So you're willing to live her and enjoy the milk and honey of being a US Citizen. But yet you're unwilling to stand and defend those very things you claim to love about this country? That's fricking pathetic.

I'm in now, glad I did it, I'll probably get out when my extension is finished. It was great for a 22 year old shite head to go do and learn some shite and travel to places I never thought I'd go. I've done much more than about 80% of people I went to high school with. Plus the rest of college is paid for so that's pretty great. I would recommend it to anyone.

Force =/= Freedom

I'm a donor citizen, bike man. I get far less out of the government than I put into it. I've paid enough federal income tax over the past decade to cover what the median earner will pay in his lifetime. Considering much of that has gone to finance military endeavors, I'd say I have done my part.

Not even close. You don't even know what your part is. Your attitude is a text book example of why this country has gone to shite over the past 40 years. You love living under the protection of the freedoms this country extends to you but you view the DUTY of defending those freedoms as the job of someone. else.

They're the ones who claim to cherish freedom, all at the same time.

Why do you support tyrannical rule, Darth? That's the anti-thesis of this nation-state.

Do I get to decide the reason we go to war? Because fighting over land rights in a foreign country has nothing to do with the things I love about this country.

No. You're a piece of shite if you're not willing to die based on the words of professional liars.

Freedom is not something that is just given freely. It's something that has to be earned and re-earned, and paid for over and over though each successive generation. So long as this country has men willing to pay that price we will remain a free people. Sadly, what we have nowadays is a generation who stomp their feet and demand "freedom" more so than any generation before but precious few of them are willing to accept paying the price of that freedom.

I had this discussion with a friend last week actually. I started and gone pretty good ways into the process but backed out before committing. Kind of regret it but may think about it once I'm out of school again
