Wife and I have an event next Saturday night 1/2 out of town. Daughter will go to a friends house and asked parents to watch young son. Little bit of a background, younger brother has 2 kids and my parents drop and pick them up from school, watch them whenever, etc. Wife and I never really ask my parents to watch them overnight and we also host holidays, birthdays and the like and never mind doing that at all. . Mom texted me today saying we have friends coming in next weekend and if so can you find someone else to watch son. I wasn’t pleased with that and voiced my displeasure. Am I in the wrong here, thoughts?

ETA: Mom said yes at first. When they were at my house for Christmas we talked about it again. When she texted me this evening she said I never officially confirmed that we needed them and they made plans. She said if we can’t find anyone they would watch him, but I know it isn’t her priority.

Sounds pretty reasonable on her end. She's giving you plenty of time.

You asked, they said no. They gave a legitimate reason, don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill.

You're in the wrong for not posting pics.

Why insert this?

It is your son. She doesn’t owe you free baby sitting if it messes up her plans.

Nope, I would be pissed.

Eta: double pisssed, if you commit you have to follow through. Grandchildren > friends! Peroid.

I insert this because my parents always do stuff for my brothers kids and we always host everything and thought well shouldn’t be much to watch him one night.

You sound like a spoiled little bitch stomping and saying it’s not fair.

So I’m spoiled if I can’t count on my parents to watch my kid for only the 2nd night this past year. I feel like it’s a reasonable request.

It is. Your mom’s response is also reasonable.

Getting mad and voicing your displeasure isn’t reasonable.

They have plans and gave you notice. You're in the wrong. Just hire a sitter.

It's a reasonable request, definitely. However, she is giving you ample time (and a reason) for their refusal. Yeah, it's annoying, but it's nothing to really get pissy over.

The root of your issue is this.

You feel a certain way about the extra help your brother receives from your parents. This particular event just happens to be the one that set you over the edge. It is human to feel the way you do. That being said, it isn’t particularly healthy.
