It's pretty much impossible for me to get my feeling hurt. IF I was actually black I would bet the barn the N word wouldn't even make me think twice about it or barely notice it had been said

I mean I'm not black so it could just be easy for me to say, but like I mentioned I don't ever ever get offended and especially over a word.

This is why established gender roles have been around forever.

Women are better at processing language information and interpreting nonverbal communication. Men are better with concrete concepts such as basic math. Women are better with process-oriented tasks - men are better with goal-oriented tasks. This makes a lot of sense when you consider the evolutionary environment of the stone age and the transition from subsistence/survival to the hunter/gather/agriculture modes.

Women and children stayed near the hearth and fire, did the gathering in a collaborative effort - communication and working together were paramount. Men formed hunting parties and worked in a heirarchy, very similar to military organizations, where decisive action and following orders were paramount.

My children will not call themselves "black". Black in reference to "race" is only used to denote classes in america. Their skin color is not black, their ancestors don't come from a country called black, so their is no reason for them to describe themselves as black.

What will they refer to themselves as?

oh god

I call myself white. Quit being so sensitive. Its just an easy, one syllable description that people recognize. My black friends call themselves black and hate being called African-American because its annoying to say and they aren't from fricking Africa. Neither are their parents, their grandparents, etc.

ETA:

"Excuse me sir, I am not white. That is offensive. I am not from a country called White. I am French-Dutch-German-American."

Which is women shouldn't be allowed in the military.

Neither. I've literally ignored and walked away from a stranger who called me the N-word (guy was sitting in a car at an intersection and I was a pedestrian). It just made him madder, which was more gratifying than anything I could have said to him.
Good. That person doesn't deserve any response. He probably had far greater issues (hate, psychological problems, and/or maybe a really bad day) that wasn't going away, response or not.

His reaction and your lack thereof is probably why you have a PhD in a extemely difficult field, and he is probably not near as successful (or at least very unhappy).

I'm white and if I witnessed this in person I would lose my shite.

You are a better man than I.
I've witnessed it and it has pissed me off but it just makes it easier for me to pick out the ignorant of the bunch. I don't see any other reason for it to produce anger. I'm not going to get stupid over someone having been "nurtured" in an environment that produced stupidity.

Based on what I'm hearing from the elementary schools around here, the new term is going to be "dark-skinned". "Black" is losing favor as a descriptor. But we pasty folks are still "white".

I really wish we could just pick one and stick with it rather than changing it every 25 years and getting offended when people don't keep up with the new appropriate.

You have to cut Reb some slack. He's from Pineville. Lots of negative cultural influence there.

Great point. Maybe we should reinforce ignorant people being ignorant so don't have to waste our time thinking they are not. It would make it easier to find those worth my time.

I thought Caucasian and Negro worked pretty well, but they also fell out of favor.

The answer is unequivocally NO. There are genetic differences in every individual and that has nothing to do with race or demographic.
