People tend to gravitate towards activities that take advantage of the gifts that they have.
There are plenty of white linemen in the NFL, because there are a lot of whites who are genetically predisposed to be big and strong. There aren't as many who are predisposed to be fast and elusive. Mother Nature didn't see a need for people in Northern Europe to be skinny and fast. She made them more suited to dealing with plodding through cold, snowy weather. Light hair, skin and eyes. Short legs and a compact, powerful body... In Africa, she saw the need for speed and endurance combined with scarce resources. Africans have dark hair, skin and eyes & they can cover a lot of ground very quickly. They are better suited to the Savannah.
None of this has to do with intelligence, IMO. That is far more culturally influenced than physical traits.

As to genetic differences, yes, there are, but that doesn't signify superiority or inferiority or even that they are "different." I have brown hair and other people have black hair. That's a genetic difference but it doesn't mean that we're "different." Moreover, the racial classifications are social constructs created to justify racial classifications and promote the idea that there is a scientific basis to believe that one group is superior to another.

quote:It's the Ecological Fallacy; taking group data and applying it to the individual. So we can acknowledge that Hispanics and Blacks, on the group level, have typically scored lower than Whites and Asians, on the group level, on some test (IQ, SAT), but we can't assume person A (Asian) will score higher than person B (Hispanic). It's a logical fallacy first, but the group-level differences are also too small to generalize.
You could have legitimately smart people of a certain race who are assumed to be dumb because of their race. Those people have to work harder to prove they aren't idiots, and then it still sometimes doesn't work.

Captain Obvious just walked in my den and said it is impossible to divorce nature and nurture.
As examples he said, The Manning boys were surrounded by QB and football talk from the crib, but if they were the size of the average Cajun we would not know of them.
He did ask this: If an alcoholic man and woman had a child together but were both sober for the entirety of the child's upbringing, would the child be a likely drunk. NOT just a drinker, but an alky?

Absolutely. But it doesn't detract from my point. I have a PhD in an engineering field and I still get the "you speak so well" treatment.

No, Rebel is confused. It is a common flaw from people who live so close to the river. I'M originally from Tioga, so he is trying to take a shot at me and, as expected, ended up making himself look bad.

I wonder when all of that will die out.

i thought they were talking about you. i'm juggling too many things to be involved in an intelligent discussion.

But when you look at the world, (Western Europe, Nordic countries, US, Canada) why do these countries have the highest standard of living while an entire continent in Africa or large population of people in India have such a low standard of living? THat can't all be "luck" and environment, right?
Africa has been such a beacon of 'government' leadership for centuries.

We should do this same thread but for the two sexes.

You should view this as an indictment of the African American population at large more than a slight against you. I literally cannot understand urban blacks. My suburban black friends all talk like me.
Of course, I've had the same issue with different categories of cajuns.

Actually this is a cool topic. Women have better abilities to discern colors on the color wheel, while men have better hand-eye coordination. Women have strengths where men have weaknesses and vice versa.
I saw the show Brain Games on this. Pretty neat how we evolved differently due to roles in primitive societies.

I can see environment playing a role. Africa is generally hot and sunny, therefore dark skin is an evolutionary trait there. Whereas cold, and limited sun areas like northern Europe have people with light skin. As far as traits like intelligence and athleticism, they could be attributed to "upbringing" as areas like China and Japan had strong education several hundred years before the U.S. was even a country. Or in Africa, speed and agility were required in order to feed ones family. Of course America has slavery to thank for it's athletically talented black people. But you can't pin it all on that. Lot of other factors there too.
