They know about 100x more than general physicians know about teeth.

Enough to need 4 years of education. While you're off learning bits and pieces about every part of the human body, they are focusing on one specific part.
ETA: I know physicians think they know everything. I've had to teach some of them before.

Dentist school and medical school are almost identical for the 1st 2 years. They take the same courses and even share some of the same teachers.
I have taught and tutored in physiology at both med and dental school in NO, and I promise you, the basic science courses for dental are not as in-depth or difficult as they are for med students. Not close really.

Seriously, though, good luck.
Make sure you are on a first-name basis with the gals in the admission office. Sweet talk them, inquire about the wait list, ie show interest. This could help get you an interview and even admittance if you are a borderline candidate.
If you don't get in this year, I would suggest moving to Birmingham and doing research with someone at the UABSOD. Getting a MPH in the meantime with a project relevant to dental health would really help bolster your application, too.
What if you never had a cavity? Would that help in getting an interview?

Y'all take this dental school, faux doctor circle jerk somewhere else.

With good recommendation, 3.2 gpa, and a BS from a school like AU what would you consider to be the minimum DAT score required to get into dental school?
But a good score on the DAT isn't really that tough to get. It's much easier to study for and get a good grade on than it is to maintain a good GPA for 4 years. Just study the right materials and devote some time to it.

A simple and imprecise rule if thumb is that if you can write prescriptions, you're a doctor.
Only doctors can write prescriptions, but most doctors can't write prescriptions. lawyers, theologians, historians, and many other of our most brilliant doctors cannot write prescriptions. just in case you did not notice, i subtly included lawyers as brilliant doctors.

Dentists are doctors in their own special way and the industry is comprised of way too many crooks.
Why does no one question their dentist or ask for second opinions?

late to the thread, but what about 911moto?
Does he refer to himself(non-working dentist) as a Dr?

Almost all of my family are doctors and dentists. Dentists are people that wanted to be a real doctor but couldn't make it. I'm am neither a doctor or a dentist.

Or maybe some people are crazy and like working with their hands, having flexible hours/not being on call, and making more than a general practitioner

Dentists rape their patients enough that they work less than GPs (take off Wednesday afternoons and Fridays) and make more than GPs. Golf and Wed and Friday during work hours does sound awesome.
It's dumb. I won't see any dentist that doesn't work 4.5 days a week at least. I'm not paying for their part time job that gives them a beach condo and golf memberships. That's just me though.

You really have something against dentists don't you?
Posted on 1/14/15 at 4:17 pm to tween the hedges
Yes. I don't care for crooks. The problem is, I know enough to know when they are attempting to steal.
