Once again you're missing the point about understanding historical context. "Our nation" wasn't the nation of 1860. The US didn't have as powerful a federal government as it does today. The states and local municipalities had much more autonomy than they do today. You're arguing for something because it offends you today without taking into account the context of history.
The South never felt that they were a part of the US. And they didn't want to destroy it. They wanted autonomy, they wanted to be left alone. That's literally what the US fought for against the British.

I'm sure this will fix everything and make all the racism go way immediately..

That's laughably irrational. And surprising since you usually aren't irrational.

Where y'all gonna put that bad boy next to Stab's or by the Dominoes?

I posted the proper context already. You say you don't want to engage in a logical fallacy, then do precisely that to make your point.

And then you'll turn around and argue that "slavery was already on its way out anyways."

someone in Washington D.C. forcing you to do something that you don't want to?
Correction: the PROSPECT of D.C. handing down legislation you don't like. Let's keep the historical accuracy here.

Pretty rational.

They are getting rid of the statues, not white people.

I'm not defending the institution of slavery. I'm sympathizing with those who fought for the CSA. It's a big difference. I think that the war's outcome was righteous and beneficial.

After decades of threats of it happening. It didn't happen overnight.

Is it not valid to ask where the practice of erasing the presence of historical monuments and objects ends?

Serious question: How do think I should feel about my fighting age male ancestors landing in port in New Orleans and being forced to fight for the Confederacy? They didn't know what they were fighting for, only that they would be killed if they didn't.

It's a valid question. Where does it stop? Where does the removal of historical items stop?

Just like the descendants of Union soldiers who were forced to continue fighting after their commitment was up or those who were drafted.
War sucks. People die. People are forced to do things that they don't want to do. There are no victors in war, only survivors.

You're ignoring the premise of the question. What fundamental notion must be in place for a historical object to be removed?

So many "righteous" people in this thread who are racist towards white people. Typical hypocrisy.

They did what they had to do.

Those statues aren't dividing the USA. Speaking of logical fallacies.

Their cause was unjust. Good people have fought for unjust causes throughout history, though. I'll readily cede that point

Indeed. And in the spirit of such, I think it would behoove us to be loathe to place the cause of the vanquished on a pedestal. Again, I'm not advocating scorched-earth, remove any/all references everywhere and in every context.

Wasn't saying it did. Apologies for implying such.

No, I'm just saying I've answered that question many times over itt, is all
