My friend did

And then he sponsored her “cousin” to come over too. Turns out it wasn’t really her cousin and they got a divorce

Had a buddy that married a foreign chick, but didn't do it just to give her citizenship. He truly loved her. They wed, she played the doting wife, he started talking about kids to us.

As soon as the 2 year mark passed (I guess that's how long you have to stay married) she bolted and never looked back. Left him alone and sad. Women can be rough.

My wife wasn’t born a US citizen, but she became one on her own a few months after we first started dating.

I have two friends, one a Canadian and the other a Chinese national, who got married last year in order for one to get a green card (they were getting married regardless, the situation just expedited it).

Surprisingly, it was the Canadian who was the one with the iffy immigration status. He still can’t leave the US for another 8-9 months until his green card situation is sorted.
