Just an old straw hat when I'm cutting grass.
Keeping the sun off my face, ears and shoulders to a certain extent makes a world of difference.
I say nice. It was 50 bucks, but light years better than the super cheap ones I had tried prior

Nice hats should make a comeback for men
I had a political science professor state that the custom of men wearing hats was basically killed when JFK ran for and became President, which coincided with the televised age and the first TV-popular, handsome President with a full head of hair. Before that, he said, most Presidents wore hats in public.

I have one of these
I wear it around the house, not in public though. And my kids make fun of me and call me Fievel.

My hat is a Stetson "Bryce". The other straw 'Gus' hat stetson makes is called the "Calhoun".
I've been really happy with mine. It's held up well and has no apparent wear and I've worn it everywhere.
I went to Isreal and Egypt a few years ago. and looking at me, there will be zero doubt I'm an American. I figure why not play into it a bit. I'm a giant American dude with a big "Gus" style hat on. The Egyptians in particular got a big kick out of it.

I have straw and felt cowboy hats that I wear often when I'm not at work. I refuse to wear anything that looks close to a fedora.
A good rule of thumb is never wear a hat that has more personality than you do.

As old school as I'm willing to get today.

You ever notice none of their hats were shaped?
I have a Stetson Silver Mine hat that came without much shape and everybody wanted to know why I didn't take it and get it shaped.
I did change the hat band FWIW.
Seems like real high sides of the brim are in style now for cowboy hats.

I will also walk around under a flat cap.

I associate that hat style with crooked Southern politicians and sheriffs.

Yes, ever since I had my first skin cancer Mohs surgery about 15 years ago. In fact, just picked up a new straw fedora on a trip to Spain. Better looking than a baseball cap, and keeps more sun off my face.

LOL ... this is my other fedora, a Stetson Temple, this color.
