I often worked out in the sun and began wearing hats for sun protection many years ago.
I use Akubras (mostly Campdrafts), Beaver Brand (reworked), Stetson, Panama and a reworked Resistol.
There is a really good forum for people with our interest in hats. Might know you from there.

I have a bunch of cowboy hats, Stetson, Resistol, and a custom from Catalena Hatters outside of college station. I wear them often and get compliments reliably from folks. The best ones are when I’m in an elevator and it’s an old black dude that makes a positive comment.

We went to Tombstone, AZ several years ago. There was a hat shop on the main street and I walked in and told my wife "I think I might like a nice hat". She laughed and said "there's no way you are wearing a cowboy hat".
I put one on and she said "perfect". I call it my adventure hat and it's been all over the world with me. There isn't any replacement for a good full coverage hat.

I’m thinking about getting a straw “Gus.”
The palm hat I wear is made by Fishpond (fly fishing gear company) and stands up to the water well.
