Been having issues for months. Finally had MRI and saw surgeon this morning. Have basically three discs screwed up in neck, one worse than others. Can have that disc removed, replaced etc or do a surgery where they cut spine bone to give more room for discs and spinal chord.

Had disc surgery in lower back in 93 when I was at LSU. Really don’t want to go through this again but looks like I’ll have to.

Yes but with proper physical therapy and commitment to strengthening exercises.. I’ve rehabilitated to nearly 95%.

Here’s a recent photo

Serious note: Neck/back surgeries apparently suck. Avoid if at all possible.

I did about 13 years ago. I had disc degeneration at two levels. I tried therapy, traction, injection, meds, for a few years. Pain got so bad when I sneezed I dropped to my knees. Often had to sleep almost upright Had a two level fusion, plate and 6 screws. Best decision I ever made. No issues, full range of motion. Good luck to you

about ten years ago had messed up disc in my neck, the pain was awful, they put a zinc plate on it to hold it all together, no real problems with it since

Had to be titanium.

The OP, neck surgery tends to have much better results than back surgery.

I have three herniated discs in my neck C2-C3, C3-C4 and C6-C7 with spinal cord compression. No real pain (yet), but am looking at a C6-C7 fusion and cord decompression at some point. Multilevel fusion was suggested but no way I’m doing that. Also have DJD and spinal stenosis. Anterior surgery, neck brace for 4-6 weeks and 16 week recovery (supposedly).

Oh well, I’ve had great health for all of my life till now. Guess it’s time to pay the fiddler.

Do not do it unless it's absolutely 100% the only final option.

Neck recovery is much different than back. Back patients almost never return to normal. Neck patients are much better almost immediately. I hope you're going to a neurosurgeon and not an orthopedist. Just my personal preference.

Any Neuro doctor that suggest surgery before trying PT or injections are quacks.

Wanted to do the same to me over a decade ago. Chiropractor fixed me up just fine. Never had issues since.

Had three level neck fusion. Apparently I was born with narrow spinal canal didn't know it. Iam one of the unlucky ones. Majority comes out fine. I lost use of my arms day after surgery. After a lot of rehab, arms came back after two months.

It has been over a year and still having a lot of problems. Ton of pain still and trouble sleeping. Dr said he was trying to keep it from getting worse.

Neck stegnosis and spondalytis is a bitch. Once it gets bad, surgery is most of the times only option. Iam sure there is a lot more people with medical training than me on here. Iam only speaking from my own experience. I have heard from a lot of people about how it was the best thing they ever did.

Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

twice, each about 5 years apart

C3 - C6 are some mix of art disc & fusions. Best damn thing I've done. Instant relief. Quite literally, once I woke from anesthesia, instant motion in my arms, no tingling in my fingers, my sense of touch came back, and the pain went from a 9 to a 2

what do you want to know?
