Have a buddy trying to talk me into one. Obviously it’ll take a lot of training, but the most I’ve ever done is a couple marathons. I could not imagine doing the equivalent on a bike and in the water as well all at one time.

Is it all just a mindset?

You kidding? Every OTer is doing double Ironman races. And they always win.

I have. If you’re not a good swimmer it’s going to be a lot more difficult. Also get ready to drop at least a grand on a bike.

They are insane. Any of the three legs is impressive. Let alone doing all 3.
I've run a marathon, and that wiped me out. No idea how anyone could swim 2 miles, then bike 100 miles before running.

The training for one is ridiculously strenuous but also varies with which course/city you do. Panama City is considered one of the faster IM because of the flat terrain vs somewhere like Chattanooga. It’s held in November when temps are just starting to temper down but the humidity is still a factor. You’d be training differently for the one in AZ.

Your mindset does need to be trained to be strong for this but you can only go as far as your body will take you. You’ll have to train your mindset for your training as well. There will be plenty of nights when you come home from work not wanting to put on another movie and get on your bike and fluid trainer for another 2 hours like you’ve done already 3 times that week.

I work with a guy that’s done 3. Also an expert marksman. He does all these tactical shooting competitions around the country. He’s the kind of guy you want to be when things get whacky

I’ve done a half and that was a decent jump from a marathon. I think the biggest thing is just having the time to put in the training. Just for the half I was at 12-15 hours a week. I think I’d have to get a divorce to have enough time for a full.

Completed IM Maryland in 2019 and doing IM Arizona in November this year. Obviously you can jump into one with lots of training, but better to find out if you even like triathlons by doing sprints, Olympic, and half distances. I did 8 triathlons in 2019 before doing Maryland, so lots of training that year. And yes, the training regime puts lots of stress on the family and I had to apologize for a few months after it was all done and over with

Just pick one sport and be good at that.

Better than being goofy and mediocre at three.

In cycling, triathletes are laughed at due to their lack of bike handling skills, ankle socks, sleeveless jerseys, and the amount of piss on their bikes.

I have not ... maybe start with a half IM? I hear from friends that Savannah is a good one as the swim is down stream.
