Putting these in garages is the stupidest shite ever. You’re basically outside. That garage door is offering zero protection. These need to be in interior rooms. Better yet they need to be underground.

I have a wine cellar for a couple hundred bottles of wine. It is not much but it is mine. I don't plan on sitting in the aftermath of a tornado sober.

We have the one in the 2nd picture in our garage. It’s called a Flat Safe.

No but we have a basement with a back corner room that is surrounded by 12 feet of dirt on two sides.
Sounds good until you consider having to dig your way out if the SHTF and the house collapses.

Where we park leaves plenty of room to slide the top open and walk down into it.

I’m about to build a garage/shop and am considering the in-floor type.
Besides storm protection, it would work great as an oil change bay.

I mean, not everyone has the ability to do that in their homes. I don't think anyone with those kinds of above-ground shelters are expecting a garage door (or any kind of interior wall, door, etc) to do the protecting. The shelter is the protection.

In Wisconsin we call them a basement.
Basements aren't great tornado protection.
They could lift the house slightly and sit it back on top of you. Happens often.

You might be shocked to learn that many areas around the country don’t build slab-on-grade. The garage floor is the only concrete.

would be quite damp in a lot of the tornado states.
Easy enough to construct a basement that is waterproof. Basements are built in the north primarily as a way to keep water and drain lines out of the cold. We didn't need to worry about that in the south so didn't traditionally built basements.
