Anyone ever had a battery so dead the starter won’t make a sound and the hood won’t open?

Came back from vacation and left the dash cam plugged in. Car won’t turn or make a noise and now the key is stuck in the ignition.

The hood won’t even pop. Got a roadside guy coming to help. I suspect the culprit is the dash cam which I forgot to unplug. Unfortunately it still sucks battery even when the car is off. A whole week or so of it draining battery and my car right now is basically a cinderblock.

Hopefully when they jack the hood open I don’t find out my entire engine got stripped the wheels are still on it though and all the interior electronics are still there so I think they would have tried to snag those first.

Why is the key stuck in the ignition?

The hood? What car is this? Hood should be mechanical release.

A hood not opening when a battery dies is the dumbest fricking thing in the history of vehicles.

What the frick kind of car is this?

This is like the gas cap not opening if the car is out of gas.

The tire valves not accepting air when the tires are low.

The windshield wipers being disabled when they get wet.

It’s a 2008 equinox.

Eta: I’m yanking on the release and the hood just isn’t popping. Like almost all modern cars it pops an inch or so then there’s a manual release under the hood itself. But I can’t even get it to do the initial pop.

.....the hood won’t open?

That’s a mechanical lock...has nothing to do with battery. Have you ever opened the hood of a car?

Did the dash cam severe your hood latch cable?

Exactly. I'm gonna guess the OP is wrong. The hood not being able to pop cant be related to the battery being dead.

Unless the battery is under the back seat. Still dumbest thing though.

I've had an issue where I had to adjust the cable for the hood. It just wouldn't fully release but you could get it open with a pocket knife or screwdriver.

Have somebody pull up on the hood while you pull the release lever.

Fair enough, my wife's beamer had this actually.

I was assuming his battery was in the front because he tried to open the hood. If so, it's like the car engineers were playing a practical joke on consumers.

Dead battery means the hood won't open?!

It's a Chevy Equinox though. The battery is not keeping the hood closed in that car.

Then you have a separate issue related to you hood latch cable. It's still not related to the battery.
