I was starting to get into soccer a few years back but then I discovered the sport of rugby and haven't had any time to follow soccer since.

I'll probably watch some world cup though.

How do you follow rugby? And for someone new to the sport, what would you recommend?

ETA: I have an All Blacks shirt so I'm like one step below a full blown fan.

What i mean is the Networks want what the Sport have. All the networks have is money. If the Sport were to put their foot down and say no. they might lose money to begin with but the Networks will still have the demand to broadcast the sport.

This is the main reason fans in general find it become better to watch the game at home or bar rather than in the stadium.

If you are predisposed to hating soccer, you will never like it.

Some people love it from the beginning.

I was not one of those people.

I used to hate soccer, and wondered why the people who did like it liked it so much- so I started watching when I was bored and there was nothing else better on tv- and guess what happened? It all started making sense and became very enjoyable.

That's just my take. I don't care if you like it or not. Carry on.

its easy for the NFL, NBA, NCAA, etc to extend those stoppages for the higher priced contracts they can get with the networks

Nah it's not that. Americans LIKE commercials. It allows them to get up and take a piss or get another beer (which is nice). A lot of times one thing people don't like about soccer is that you can't get up or you'll miss something (maybe the only goal of the match). Watching sports in America is more about the social atmosphere and less about the game and the amount of commercials reflect that.

Here's something some of y'all might appreciate: your kids can compete in a little league without teammates named Barkevious and Jadaveon.

I do. It lets them know when to pay attention and when not to and they only have to pay attention in a couple minute intervals. With soccer, especially people not familiar with the game, it's just 45 minutes of the same shite. They can't read the game well enough to know when something is building and when to really pay attention.

i dont think it's boring, it's just hard to understand the numerous leagues and the magnitude of each match. Or its too time consuming to try and learn. I'll watch the world cup cause i know the ramifications
