Anybody remember when ZZ Top did a live show in Henderson Swamp

at 6 AM in 1986 for Japanese TV? Me neither. And how the hell did these things all come together like this. There doesn't seem to be a Louisiana element to this other than the location, and they filmed it at 6 AM because it was 8 PM Tokyo time. Also, they aren't really playing, just lip-synching.
Vintage ZZ Top!
Not a music topic, really, just a local cultural history topic. Did anyone here go to this thing or hear about it?

Too much talking on the fricking headset. Some things never change

The john boat in front with the motor on the side of the transom, wtf.

I would like to see what the Japanese fans of ZZ Top looked like in the 80s.
Talk about a weird mix.

I would hope one of the band members plowed the Japanese host. She was easy on the eyes.

Clearly they both did. There were way too many questions about the beards.

This might be the coolest thing I'll see on the internet today.

I wish I was older in the 80s.

When my brother was going to USL, he saw ZZ Top play in some bar outside of Laffy before Rio Grande album came out. This was back in the early 70's.

Lafayette used to draw some pretty good talent in some relatively small venues, I've seen some pretty good shows there

I remember this. Was a Senior in HS. We heard rumors and tried to skip class to go out there, but it was really filmed on Saturday

The bar was called Willy Purple's. I believe it was located behind where the Chili's on Pinhook and the Outback/Fairfield hotel are located, in that area.

I remember the show in Sugar Bowl Stadium in New Orleans.

there was a place west of town, maybe in Scott that used to get some pretty good acts, and later on Grant Street Dance Hall did too, saw Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon and others there, now that I think of it there was a place in St. Martinville, Slick's? that used to get some decent acts too

yep it was Signorelli's, then Slick's. The Rainbow club in Cade too. LeRoux and Zebra were always playing there in the mid 80's.
