I've been traveling all day to get to a graduate school interview on the other side of the country. Have been excited, but now that I am here I am starting to get a little anxious.

I'm confident that I am prepared and that all my ducks are in a row, but at the same time I can't help but to imagine the "what if" of not getting in and being a 23 year old college graduate and having to reevaluate a potential career.

Any advice from some of you wiser folks? I know I've come to the right place.

Eat an eighth of shrooms about 2 hours before your interview.

There are plenty of grad schools, if you don't get into this one then just move on to other option.

Be true to yourself and don't try and sale them what you think they want, that way everyone will be happier in the end.

It’s just one interview baw. If you get in, great, if not, find another. Interviews are often about fit. Don’t let it define your career if it’s not a fit.

Depends on what school and what grad degree, but I'd say just be confident and professional.

I'm currently in grad school fyi

MANY people in grad school are much older than you, including myself. Seriously, time and age should be the least of your worries. People reevaluate careers in there 50's and you're worried about it at 23? You'll be fine.

If you're someone who exercises, get up early tomorrow and go for a run. If not, get up and go for a walk.

Grab some coffee and have a relaxing breakfast.

Getting yourself in a calm, relaxed headspace will go a long way.

This is true, but I have chosen a very unique career path and this is one of the only programs in the country that offers what I need for my future career. I guess the flip side to that coin is I could always just apply again in a year, but I've reached a point in my life where I am ready to get it on the road.

Dude, spoiler alert, but if I had to take a guess regardless of how this interview goes, you’ll be reevaluating your career within the next decade. Most people do it. If you have to do it at 23, that’s actually fantastic news. Before 25 people judge you on your potential. After 25 they judge you on your results. Don’t sweat it dude. Chances are it won’t mean dick 10 years from now.

Remember the guy interviewing you will be more like Michael Scott than Elon Musk.

Why would the same exact program accept you a year after rejecting you?

Sound advice. I try to look at a lot of my worries like that, "a year from now will I even really give a shite"--usually the answer is no, but with this possibly being my future that way of thinking has been a bit harder to apply

I don't know, maybe a demographic thing with people they have already taken, ask that I get more experience and observation in the field (I think I have plenty all things considered with this Covid mess and observation opportunities being limited due to that), etc.
