In another thread, a person in insurance stated that his company is not paying for damages caused by antifa riots due to the standard exclusion of damages caused by of Acts of War. Is this denial of coverage happening across the country? Valid?

I suppose they can “deny” a claim for any reason but I’d be shocked if it held up in court since Riot and Vandalism are standard covered perils in most policies.

I agree, my thoughts as well. But he was quite emphatic that his company was denying such claims. The problem there is that simply by denying a claim, the whole process of getting your property rebuilt would end up in court. And defense attys get paid by the hour.

It has to come to this to affect change.

When the rest of the country sees that destroying stuff just won’t be easily fixed, the rioting BS will get shut down with a quickness

When they stop writing policies in cities that condone this behavior, businesses will leave. Portland is destined to become the newest Detroit. It won't be the last.

Every business insurance policy I havE had since 2003 has had a waiver for for me to decline coverage for acts of terror. I wondered when it would become an issue with current events.

If the act that caused the damage is certified by the Sec. of the Treasury to be an act of terror.

My aunt and uncle live in Kenosha. The police went door to door telling them to do what they to do if shite went down and insurance would not cover property damage from Antifa.

The cop who shot the guy lives three blocks from them, so they were expecting some excitement.

It’s being seen as an act of terrorism by the insurance companies and that is an exclusion that can be covered with an additional election, and of course significant additional premium. Not commonly elected. Frankly, if I were the insurer I wouldn’t cover it either because it’s been encouraged and not mitigated by the municipalities. I feel terrible for these business owners and I hope they collectively sue their municipalities into oblivion and win. Shite situation for all invested parties with the exception of the liberal corporations who’ve encouraged the behavior as well only to have their businesses looted and damaged anyways.

They’ll find a reason to deny coverage.

Riot is a commonly excluded peril for insurance. Basically, if you can't predict the losses from it in the aggregate, you can't insure it, at least not widely at a non-exorbitant premium.

For instance: hurricanes. Though you can't predict any single hurricane or the associated losses, they happen often enough that insurance companies can project that over X number of years, they can expect Y amount of claims paid and can figure out Z, the proper premium to insure for those Y dollars in claims over X years. Riots and civil unrest are unpredictable. How do you decide what the premium should be for something that is so infrequent as to be essentially random?
