One of the most important men in the past 100 years and one who didn’t get enough attention.
Someone who completely organized the US war effort in World War 2, chief of staff of the army, secretary of defense, Secretary of State, Nobel prize winner. Implementer of the Marshall Plan which oversaw American influence increases in Europe after the war.
Known for being extremely humble. He wanted to be a frontline general but actively said he was ok to do his service however best he was needed.

Arguable the greatest American of the 20th century. Top five at least.

Agreed.
My dad actually won the George C Marshall award during ROTC for his university.
Crazy part is the guy he beat out was one of the pilots in the Black Hawk Down missions.

One of my college history professors called Marshall one of the four "greatest manipulators of force" in American military history. Marshall and Admiral Ernest King might be the two most unsung heroes of the Second World War from the American perspective.

King for sure but are there really people who know WW2 who don't know the gravity or Marshall's work?

I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of Americans would have no idea who most of our leaders from WWII were. However, even those who are aware of the individual exploits of that generation, Marshall and King don't always get discussed because they were behind desks in D.C. instead of out in the field.
