No

Seriously, the 50% myth has been repeatedly debunked.

We should figure out a system to be "single" one weekend a month. That would drive divorce rates down drastically.

Ahh the "purge" theory. Air tight, IMO

Divorce rates are dropping

And there is a huge disparity for college grads

After speaking with a lawyer (In Texas), I decided I couldn't afford to get divorced.

Wife has no job so I would be responsible for the following.:

Spousal support - enough to pay for her to live somewhere else.
Insurance
A Car
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Evaluation with Counseling if needed
A lawyer for me and one for her since she can't afford one.

After that I decided I would try to stick it out

Based on the last time I saw this come up, a bunch of people will be in here soon to tell you the stats are wrong. And only trashy people get divorced.

Well, stats like the OP threw out are extremely misleading.

First-time marriage divorce rate is about 30% if I remember correctly.

Controlling for things like income and education level, the likelihood of divorce for most people on here is probably in the 10 - 15% range.

We make 6 years Easter Sunday. What's alarming are the number of divorces after 20+ years of marriage.

we had a date last night where we talked about 2-3 of our friends going through divorces right now. we've been married 14 years and were amazed at how few divorces we've been privy to till now. that being said, the majority of our close friends are from church activities, so i'd assume that number drops the average.

i could be off, but i feel like the majority of divorces in the church are infidelity.

Blame social media and the system that rewards bad behaviour

I was married and divorced at a young age. I doubt I could ever pull the trigger again esp now that I'm older and have a lot to lose.

As far as rates all of my old college friends and older friends are still married to their original spouse. I'm happy for them but sorta makes me feel like a failure. Oh well.

Made it 9 years so far and 8 of those were when I was military which spikes, and 3 of those was recruiting which has crazy high divorce stats. I feel very lucky I picked a great woman.

Yes, if you take out serial divorcers (people who, apparently, suck at marriage) the rate of divorce plummets into the teens.

Only if I can renew it online and I don't have to take a test like "Can you spot what's different about the bathroom?" or "Guess how much this cost."
