Amazon developer files plans for massive distribution center at Cortana Mall site

Update to the previous on-going saga. Looks like they have gotten past the Dillard's stuff. Expected to bring 1,000+ new jobs to the area. Plus arguably the biggest waste of space and the biggest eye-sore in the city is now going to be redeveloped.

The application is for a distribution center on the Cortana site that will have a 2.895 million-square-foot warehouse, with a 45,000-square-foot office building, pump house and guard house.
Earlier this week, Seefried officials met with the mayor’s office and members of the Metro Council, who were required to sign confidentiality agreements, to brief them on the project, according to sources familiar with the situation. The purpose of the briefings, which were held in small groups so as not to violate the state’s open meetings law, was to make sure officials from the city-parish were on board with the project and would be supportive of the developer’s needs before any public documents were filed, the sources say.

The filing today of the Seefried application with the Planning Commission confirms in writing what Daily Report has reported since 2019 about Amazon’s plans for the market and the Cortana Mall site. It also indicates that the on-again-off-again tussle between the developer and the owners of Dillard’s, one of the mall anchor tenants, has been resolved.

Great news for Baton Rouge and Louisiana!
That is a MASSIVE warehouse. Much larger than what people speculated would ever fit on that property. No wonder they needed all of the anchor stores.
That’s nearly 3 times the size of the one they are building in Carencro, which is itself a huge facility.

When's the sale at Dillard's?
Might as well move that store to the new mall.
The new mall is struggling to survive as well

Great news!
Curious, does anyone know how this going to affect traffic in the area? Is there any plans on additional infrastructure?

I'd love to see that area revitalized. Good for the them if they can pull it off.

so its back on, and the Carencro location, and the seigan lane area location? Pretty soon amazon is gonna own La. They'd prolly run it better than historical administration though. Maybe they'll build the loop and finish the 49.

I've been holding out for a NBR revitalization. That area is set up perfect for development, atleast the existing roadways and such. Its like an entire half of the city that isn't being utilized to its full potential.
Edit: as for additional infrastructure. I would imagine they would have to add something. Its already a clusterfrick driving around that area with the mall closed. They need an elevated roadway (or just a freeway like roadway) from there to i110 and i12. But I doubt it will ever happen.

An amazon warehouse isnt gonna revitalize anything
It will bring jobs but that area will remain a shithole

That's not necessarily a bad area. It's just become run down in the last 20 years. This could breathe a little life into it hopefully.
I don't think we'll ever see a 20 story office building built at Airline and Winbourne though

I thought they were going to use the existing mall building but this sounds like they are going to demo and build new? Anyone have an idea on this?

So this is twice as big as most large Amazon fullfillment centers. This might actually be one of the world's largest.
I really hope they can get this built.

For comparison Costco is about 280,000 sf.
And the infrastructure is there already in 4 lane ring roads, and all utilities. Plus one thing Amazon likes about these sights is bus routes as they know or assume employees will not all have transportation.
This is a good thing and Dillard’s came to the table with a more reasonable expectation this time.
Also they have another facility going up in Port Allen off 415 which is rather large.
This is nice to see.
