oh I'm well aware...I dont think he's going to go that route......nothing wrong with it...and I didnt mean to degrade that route...I just dont think it's in the cards for us

The fact is you are likely not even suiting up for the HS team if you didn't play some level of competitive ball. And that is not being played in any rec league I know of.
Well, that's kind of the point I've been making the whole time. If travel ball hasdnt gotten out of control Rec ball and all stars would be competitive.

so they don't have to associate with the poors.
Uh…we have one kid on the team that has professional parents. The rest are blue collar working parents or teachers. So according to the OT we are the poor haha

I said that about soccer...but for football I’ll probably let him make the call.

calling BS on this, you put me, or my Dad into today's world as a kid, we're going to do just fine, don't know if they had classifications for high schools back then, but there weren't enough kids in my Dad's school to have anything but basketball and track teams and some of the grades were combined, my Dad still holds a couple of track records at LSU, hell, his brother played football in college(after kicking some Japanese arse in WWII,) with having never played football before he went into the Navy, another brother pitched minor league baseball, athletic ability will come through, unless you have some sort of political barrier that has been referenced in this thread(if you don't play om a certain travel team you're not going to play for me in hs)

I can almost guarantee you these people are using their would be retirement savings to finance 10 year old baseball games, which is sad

Lol - I know - my nephew is in travel ball - I’m just making fun
As for my fam - we got six kids - travel ball is not in our cards - so we play with the poors and I coach (when someone actually plays)

quote:Will, I don’t disagree with this point. What is a parent of a kid that loves baseball and wants to play in HS supposed to do if the local rec league is failing? Vent on social media about the negative aspects of travel and tell little Johnnie to play pickle ball instead?

This is exactly it - and there’s really nothing wrong with that
Then we can call it like it is... travel ball for 95% of parents is all about the parents and who they want to hang out with. They want to hang out with other like-minded parents.
Which is their right, of course.
But the idea that it's really about the kids is a joke, and deserves to be mocked.

Play, which sucks. Saying it is not expensive is an absurd argeuement, even at only a grand. It used to be 50 bucks for rec.
It's really as simple as just all the good kids signing up again for rec league, but it's unfortunately too far gone.

well yea...you ever dealt with those kind of people? i hate it and have done plenty of volunteering.
Most of my volunteering is done for people who don't have a lot. Last I checked, the country club wasn't needing volunteers...
But your posts and your comments like this just make it clear that travel ball is more about who YOU want to associate yourself with, then the idea that it's all about the kids.
The kids will play with whomever they are grouped with. You are the one who wants to spend your hard-earned money to buy friends to hang out with at the ballpark.
I wonder how many frat boys end up being travel ball dads?

You’re fricking insufferable in these threads.
Just start another one and use your typical 6 year old OT Braxxtyn Jordynnn jokes that’s started every week.

It's sad, you know how many dairy queen ice creams or pizzas my parents paid for for some kid that lived with his grandmother or parents just dropped him off with no interest in how he did or just in general? I had no idea at the time, but it probably made those kids life to go eat pizza and play arcade games after a baseball game.

I'm complete opposite of frat. I think most frat guys are fricking douches. But, if my kid wants to play baseball, I am going to set him up with the best opportunity to take it as far as he wants to. I won't be paying so that I can make friends. I will be paying because I want my son to have the best chance to be successful and I have means to do so.

That's the point, if you took all the kids around Lake Charles and put them back in the Rec league, it would be fine and the competition would be enough. And guess what, then the best kids would make the all star team and go play the other best teams. Just like I did when I was a kid.
But that's not how it is and it's not going back to that so wtf is your point??
And no matter how much me and you volunteer and coach our asses off it isn't changing it.

This is an absurd take dude. There's guys that don't play football until their junior year of high school and 5 years later are first round draft picks in the NFL. Yes, baseball is a little different in that it's more of a skill based sport, but an incredible athlete can play 20 Rec games and year and all stars and still he a really good high school player. People did it for decades just fine.
Baseball isn't a generalist sport like football. Have you been around the good high school teams lately?
The advancement in skill and size the last 10 years is absurd. Especially the advancement with online training, tech and drills in the last 4-5 years is nuts.

Isn't Mingo like a midget that works for fricking HR Block and doesn't have any kids?
thats totally going to be the persons opinion I give a flying shite about.
