I’m taking my son on his first rock climbing trip this weekend, should be a good time. Shouldn’t have let him get to 15 without already having done this...but travel ball...

forget which major leaguer said this but a coach was telling him as he was going to bat to try to get in scoring position, he said "when I'm at the plate I am in scoring position"

Yes, league youth baseball is almost now unplayable because the only kids left come from some kind of bad background. That's the issue, upper middle class parents who will contribute less to retirement to get Timmy hitting lessons made travel ball the only decent playable league, and little Timmy still sucks. All because some kid in Timmys class, whose parents couldn't afford those things, has God given ability making Timmys parents jealous.
frick little Timmy's parents. Same people were told their whole life to pay attention in school or they would not be successful. Now these same people wanan bitch when i dont want my kid hanging out with their little shithead of a kid.
lil timmy can watch youtube and do the drills themselves if he wants to get better.
Dont try and make me feel bad cause I made good life decisions. and before you do, rememebr i have coached in rec over 7 years now, volunteered hundreds of hours of my time to get kids like lil timmy better. Get tired of dealing with shitty arse parents.
Sorry i want to be around other upper middle class people i have things in common with and my kid wants to play with his friends.

neither of us would make a high level HS team now a days without putting in twice the work we did, including private lessons and travel.
That's just not true dude. Plenty of professional athletes were doing all this bullshite.
You are making this some sort of personal liberty arguement, which is stupid. If you want to waste your money for your kid to get hitting lessons that's fine. But it's ruining the mission of youth sports and not helping the kids out at all. Just let them fricking play baseball in the summer. Football in the fall and basketball in the winter like kids have done since the beggining of time. ACL tears and Tommy John surgeries have risen exponentially since all this specialization started and the same players that would have been good before are good now. A 14 year old getting his elbow cut on because he threw 100 pitches a weekend for 5 years is fricking ridiculous.
And if you think Mike Trout would need travel ball and private lessons and all that shite to be the best baseball player in the game there's no reasoning with you. These Dominican guys dominate the Major Leagues growing up with broom sticks and rocks not knowing when their next real meal is going to be.
You are the problem with how kids are being raised now, and it's sad

jesus its like some of yall do not understand....some of the kids absolutely love baseball and want to play travel and ask too and ask to do lessons etc.
nobody gives a frick about the shitty d1 baseball schollies that dont cover shite.
This was my kid. He just loved baseball. We played travel and did some showcase ball. He played football, basketball and baseball all through Jr high, then played football and baseball in HS, but baseball was always his 1st love.
I know a lot of people dump on travel ball, but it absolutely helped my kid be a better player and helped him get HS playing time early on. My kid played at a 2A school , but was a 4 year starter and was always one of the best 2 or 3 on the field.
Then he used that experience to go play baseball at a small NAIA school. He had D1 opportunities and several JUCO opportunities as well, but in NAIA he was able to be a 2 way player (pitcher/1B) and since it's a small private school, he gets almost half his tuition paid via athletic scholly.

So you're just paying 10x to play glorified Dixie youth for no reason.
2.) If my boy played Dixie in the position he is now I doubt he sees a pitch worth hitting but 1-2 times per week for 8 weeks. That is 16 driveable pitches, off of kids throwing 50-55. In the last tournament the slowest pitch he saw was about 62, the most velo was about 72. They hit spots, they have changes and breaking pitches. He will see plenty to hit, but he better be ready. Also defensively, the ball is hit hard ALOT, in Dixie you can sit in left field and field about 8 balls a year, hell, some games they wear an outfield out.
Those are reasons.
3.) He plays with a group that is pretty much the same since he is 8 years old.
4.) Socially he has made friends all over the State. These majors guys have been beating up on each other for three years now. Most of them enjoy each other and pick up on competitors teams.
IF I could do all that more locally I would tell him no to travel. But it isnt even a choice that could be made.

You really may have some type of mental issue. First, these things just dont happen. Hell, even most REALLY good players dont take many lessons. Yes, some do, but it really isnt that often.
I dont know of one set of parents that does it because they were jealous, that is just non sense. Yes, some are more frugal than others on trips, but you dont know the difference in families at the ball parks.
You may have some issues you are projecting.

I was trying to be nice, but frick it.
This is a ridiculously stupid statement. If you aren't maxing your 401k and Roth, but you're paying 2k a year for your kid to play baseball you're a fricking moron.
You are just like the Boomers you shite on, you are going to have to work until you die because you spent your retirement on your kid to get some shitty knockoff ring in Panama City.

My kids don’t play organized sports - we do other things - but if one of my kids had wanted to or wants to - I would let them play
It’s good for these kids to play sports and spend the time with their parents
